Indian Corn Cob Euphorbia, botanically listed as Euphorbia mammillaris f. variegata, is a live succulent plant selected for its distinctive form and ornamental appeal. Natural color, size, form, and presentation may vary slightly with season, maturity, and growing conditions.

Morphological Characteristics

Euphorbia mammillaris f. variegata, commonly known as ‘Indian Corn Cob’, is a unique succulent belonging to the Euphorbiaceae family. This plant is noted for its striking, columnar stems that resemble small corn cobs. The stems are cylindrical and segmented, with prominent tubercles arranged in vertical rows. The variegated form displays a beautiful pattern of creamy white and green on the stems, enhancing its ornamental appeal.

Along the ridges of the stems, small, sharp spines may be present, and tiny, short-lived leaves can emerge from the tips of the tubercles. During the blooming season, ‘Indian Corn Cob’ produces small, yellow cyathia—the specialized flower structure characteristic of Euphorbias—at the tips of the stems.

Growth Habits

This succulent is a slow-growing plant that can reach up to 30 cm (12 inches) in height. It tends to branch at the base, forming clusters of upright stems over time. Native to South Africa, ‘Indian Corn Cob’ thrives in arid environments with well-draining, sandy soils. It is adapted to withstand periods of drought but is sensitive to overwatering and excessive moisture.

Maintenance Points

Lighting: Prefers bright, indirect sunlight to full sun. Adequate light helps maintain the vibrant variegation and encourages healthy growth. In hot climates, providing some afternoon shade can prevent sunburn on the stems.

Watering: Requires minimal watering. Allow the soil to dry out completely between waterings. Overwatering can lead to root rot and stem rot. During winter dormancy, reduce watering frequency significantly.

Soil: Use a well-draining cactus or succulent potting mix. Incorporating perlite or coarse sand enhances drainage and mimics the plant’s natural habitat.

Temperature: Ideal temperatures range between 15-25°C (59-77°F). The plant is not frost-tolerant and should be protected from temperatures below 10°C (50°F). In colder regions, it is best grown indoors or moved inside during the winter months.

Fertilization: Feed sparingly during the growing season (spring and summer) with a diluted, balanced, water-soluble fertilizer once a month. Over-fertilization can harm the plant and should be avoided.

Potting: Choose a container with drainage holes to prevent water accumulation. Terracotta pots are ideal as they allow excess moisture to evaporate, reducing the risk of overwatering.

Handling: Be cautious when handling the plant due to its spines and the toxic sap it produces.

Reproduction Method

Euphorbia mammillaris f. variegata can be propagated through stem cuttings and seeds.

1. Stem Cuttings:

Preparation: Wear gloves to protect your skin from the toxic sap. Use a clean, sharp knife to cut a healthy stem segment.

Callusing: Allow the cutting to dry for several days until the cut end forms a callus and the sap has stopped oozing.

Planting: Plant the callused end into well-draining soil.

Aftercare: Place the cutting in a warm location with bright, indirect light. Water lightly after a few days and then sparingly until roots establish.

2. Seeds:

Collection: Harvest seeds from mature plants if available.

Sowing: Sow seeds on the surface of a well-draining soil mix without covering them deeply.

Germination: Keep the soil slightly moist and place the container in a warm area with indirect sunlight. Germination may take several weeks.

Transplanting: Once seedlings are large enough to handle, transplant them into individual pots.

Additional Tips

Safety Note: The sap of Euphorbia plants is toxic and can cause skin irritation or allergic reactions. Always wear gloves and protective eyewear when handling the plant or taking cuttings. Avoid contact with eyes and mouth, and keep the plant away from children and pets.

Pest Control: Monitor for pests such as mealybugs and spider mites. If infestations occur, treat the plant promptly with insecticidal soap or neem oil.

Pruning: Remove any dead or shriveled stems to maintain the plant’s appearance and prevent potential pest issues.

Air Circulation: Ensure good air flow around the plant to reduce the risk of fungal diseases, especially in humid environments.

Overwintering: In regions with cold winters, indoor cultivation during colder months is recommended to protect the plant from frost damage.

By providing appropriate care and attention, ‘Indian Corn Cob’ can be a striking and low-maintenance addition to your succulent collection, offering unique texture and visual interest to both indoor and outdoor garden spaces.

Mascara is good, but don’t expect the best - smudges & flakes sometimes
Size: 0.27 Fl Oz (Pack of 1), Style: Mascara/Lash Primer
This mascara is very good for lengthening when you use the primer. I’m not sure I’ve noticed a volume/thickness increase, but have noticed lash length does look longer. I usually give it about 30 seconds for the primer to dry before using the mascara, otherwise it does clump a bit. I would also recommend wiggling both wands along your lashes during application to avoid clumps. In general I do like this, but noticed a few other important points: it will definitely run a lot if you get it wet (e.g. rain or crying), it will flake or smudge a little by the end of the day - especially if you rub your eyes, and while it does not make my eyes itch, I found it best to put in my contacts AFTER the mascara is fully dry. I’ve accidentally got some mascara a few times in my eye with the wand/trying to smooth out clumps and it totally made my contacts (daily wear type) useless after that. That all probably sounds like the mascara isn’t worth it, however I still actually like this mascara. I’d say it’s perfect for an average day’s wear, just not an extended day or in some cases. It does come off fully for me.

My Go-To Mascara for Years — Makes My Lashes Look Fuller and Longer!
Size: 0.27 Fl Oz (Pack of 1), Style: Mascara/Lash Primer
I’ve been using this mascara brand for a few years now, and it’s never let me down. This particular two-in-one (primer + mascara) combo works so well — it gives my lashes a great boost and really helps them look fuller and longer over time with consistent use. Every time I wear it, I genuinely feel more confident and put-together — it just makes me look prettier, and that’s always a plus! The primer adds volume and helps the mascara go on smoothly without clumps. It lasts well throughout the day, too. If you’re looking for a reliable mascara that delivers results and enhances your natural lashes, I definitely recommend this one!

okay so far
Size: 0.27 Fl Oz (Pack of 1), Style: Mascara/Lash Primer
bought this because i have recently developed a sensitivity to heavy makeup around the eyes. loved the ingredients of this mascara and rates a 3 on the think dirty app (amazing app check it out!) that being said, i honestly didn’t expect any crazy results like i would with my prior mascaras (l’oréal lash paradise and maybelline lash sensational) and i was right, it took forever for me to apply a decent amount to my lashes. both sides seemed kind of dried out too, not the thick consistency that people were talking about in the reviews. the primer was dry and sort of settled in clumps around my lashes and i did the best i could to comb them out but i ended out plucking out the clumps with my finger tips. the mascara itself was very thin but no clumping, just felt dried out like i said. my lashes fell straight in a matter of half an hour. it also flaked throughout the day and i spent it entirely indoors. i rubbed my eye once or twice and my inner corner felt a little irritated but im not sure it’s because of the product itself. the packaging itself is a little bulky when applying but i guess it’s a matter of working with it. i think it’s a little pricey for what it is but i think i can work with it, given that i don’t want harsh chemicals around my eyes. i will continue to be on the hunt for a “clean” mascara that works better though

Sensitive eyes, and actual visible LASHES now.
Size: 0.27 Fl Oz (Pack of 1), Style: Mascara/Lash Primer, Size: 0.27 Fl Oz (Pack of 1), Style: Mascara/Lash Primer
I've gone through so many different mascara products to be able to try and find the ones that are going to work with my sensitive eyes. I have blonde eyelashes that stick straight out and are very long for them being blonde. I was using physicians formula for years and years and years and years and then it got to the point where they switched the formula recently? And I was not getting any desired results. On a whim I decided to buy this even though it is about 10 to $12 more than what I would normally spend and I was blown away. I love the pre mascara coating, and the mascara is just so clean and so soft... It's easy to remove stays in place! It does not budge. This is a quality product 10 and a 10 100 out of 10 if I could vote it that way. Fair-skinned fair eyebrows fair eyelashes we just want to have normal looking lashes.... That's all we ask in this product delivers!

It actually is the best
Size: 0.27 Fl Oz (Pack of 1), Style: Mascara/Lash Primer
This mascara has apparently won awards, as it should have! This is the first mascara I have ever used in 20 years of wearing mascara that doesn't smudge around my eyes. The key is obviously the primer. I'm obsessive about priming something before painting it, because it makes all the difference. No wonder it makes all the difference with makeup, too. Great applicator. Product lasts for about 5 months for me, with near-daily use. Works great all the way until the tube is empty. Also thankful of course that it is a clean brand. About to purchase for the 4th time.
