🌿 Shangri La Pothos /Sleeping Pothos / Godzilla – Plant Info & Care Guide

Botanical Name: Epipremnum aureum ‘Shangri La’
Common Names: Shangri La Pothos, Sleeping Pothos, Twisted Leaf Pothos
Family: Araceae
Type: Tropical trailing or climbing houseplant
Origin: Cultivar of Epipremnum aureum

Overview

The Shangri La Pothos is one of the most unusual and eye-catching pothos varieties available. Its distinct feature? The heavily curled, twisted, and folded leaves that give it a unique, sculptural appearance—almost like it's permanently mid-yawn. These deep green leaves sometimes show golden variegation, adding even more character.

This plant brings texture and intrigue to any space and is a favorite among collectors for its quirky look and conversation-starting form. It’s also relatively easy to care for, just like other pothos types.

💡 Light Requirements

Prefers bright, indirect light for best growth and variegation

Tolerates medium to low light, but growth may slow

Avoid strong direct sun, which may burn the leaves

💧 Watering

Water when the top 1–2 inches of soil feel dry

Ensure pot has proper drainage to prevent soggy roots

Water less frequently in cooler months

🌡️ Temperature & Humidity

Thrives in temperatures between 65–85°F (18–29°C)

Avoid cold drafts or temperatures below 55°F (13°C)

Average household humidity is fine, though it appreciates slightly higher humidity

🌱 Soil & Potting

Use a well-draining potting mix with added perlite or orchid bark

Repot when root-bound or every 1–2 years for healthy growth

🍃 Fertilizing

Feed monthly during spring and summer with a balanced liquid fertilizer

Pause feeding in fall and winter when growth naturally slows

✂️ Pruning & Training

Prune to control shape or remove older leaves

Can be trained to climb or allowed to trail from a shelf or hanging basket

Unfolded leaves will remain curled; this is normal and part of the plant's charm

🌿 Propagation

Easy to propagate via stem cuttings

Root cuttings in water or soil with at least one node submerged

Expect roots to form within a few weeks

Common Issues

Slow or leggy growth: May need more light

Leaf discoloration: Usually from overwatering or underwatering

Leaves not curling properly: This plant’s natural form is curled, so any flat or irregular new leaves are normal variations

🧡 Why You’ll Love It

One of the most unique-looking pothos varieties

Bold, sculptural leaves add character to any room

Easy to grow and propagate

A rare and fun addition to any plant collection

Perfect for plant lovers who enjoy quirky, unusual foliage

Node Stem Cutting or Small Rooted Starter Plant

Each plant cutting you receive will include one node and one leaf maybe more. All cuttings are freshly cut with a stem and node to help with propagation. The node is the point where the leaf attaches to the stem, and it will often look like a small "bump" on plants like pothos, monstera, or philodendron. Keep in mind, aerial roots may or may not be present at the time of clipping so you might not notice the node but each cutting will have at least one node and one leaf ready for water or soil propagation!

After placing your order, be sure to read the note included from me for helpful tips and tricks on propagating your new plant cutting!

🌱 Shipping & Plant Health:
While it's uncommon, cuttings can occasionally be affected during shipping. If you notice any issues with your order, please contact me within 48 hours of delivery so I can offer a refund, replacement, or coupon—whichever works best for you!

It's normal for cuttings to show some signs of stress from transit, such as wilting, yellowing, or slight browning. This doesn’t necessarily mean the cutting isn’t viable—the node is the most important part, and it’s often still healthy and ready to grow.

💬 Please reach out before leaving a review if anything seems off—I want you to be happy with your order and will do my best to make it right!

🌡️ Cold Weather Shipping:
If temperatures in your area are expected to drop below 50°F (10°C), I strongly recommend adding a heat pack to your order. You can find one in the shop or add it during checkout as a shipping upgrade. This helps protect your plant during transit and reduces the chance of cold-related damage.

📦 Shipping Options:
All orders are shipped via USPS Standard Shipping. If you need your order to arrive sooner, please choose Priority Shipping at checkout.

🌤️ Weather & Delivery Disclaimer:
Please keep an eye on your local weather, as I can’t control delays, weather-related damage, or errors caused by USPS. If you're concerned about delivery, I recommend contacting USPS directly—but I’m always here to help however I can!

Thank you so much for supporting my small shop! 💚

Absolutely would buy again
Color: Orange
I love this, my pup loves this. Strong, sturdy. Shakes all over the place. Pup loves to chew on it, I think the vibration comforts her gums from teething. Perfect size You must take the outer skin off and pop open the white power button to charge it. Total fun!

Rubber blue cover won't come off.
Color: Orange
If you want to keep the blue cover on that your dog chews off every other ball that is similar, get this one. Most dogs will not chew it off. It stretches when the chew on it so it can't be chewed or stretched off the ball. I've got a blind dog and she will kick it around for an hour at a time. It keeps her active and having fun.

Nice, but...
Color: Orange
It's a good idea & keeps my 1yr old Staffy/Pit occupied, BUT... The rubber around the ball is either too easy to chew through or my pup is just an aggressive chewer. Either way, it's a plus that it does come with an additional rubber, but it would be nice to also be able to buy additional ones vs having to buy the whole toy again & again! Oh, & if you think about letting them play with it without the rubber please be on the lookout for the rubber covering where you would charge it because my pup managed to locate & destroy that cover piece as well haha!

Entertains my husky!
After some research, I decided on this interactive toy for my young husky. I chose it over others because I liked that it was wrapped in a silicone cover so it wouldn't be as hard on her teeth, or my floors. It also seems to have helped with durability. She's never had this sort of automated toy before to engage with and it surprised her at first, but then she really got into it: pawing and nosing and sometimes howling at it. I was worried it would drive her and/or me crazy, but so far so good. She will play with it for a good 10 minutes at a time and it seems to provide some good mental stimulation since it rolls and spins unpredictably. It is easy to charge and was ready to use right out of the box. It has proved durable in the first week surviving my crazy pup and multiple trips down the stairs. I am also happy to report that it has worked pretty well on the carpet/rug areas of the home. It should work pretty well unless you have a very thick shag carpet. We'll see how long it lasts, but highly recommend so far.
