Gaillardia are very heat tolerant and start to flower in mid to late summer when your other flowers have given up for the year. Best direct seeded in late spring or early summer when you soil temperature is in the mid 70's. Gaillardia dislike being transplanted so we don't recommend starting them early in pots.

Work enriched garden soil 6" and gently compact. Scatter you seeds on the surface and lightly cover with peat or compost as they need darkness to germinate.
