Native to the dry regions of Madagascar, this species grows upright with thick, branching stems and velvety leaves that shift in color as they mature—from silvery gray on the underside to coppery bronze on the upper surface. The leaves often look like they've been dusted with metallic powder, giving the plant a rich, textured appearance even in low light. Over time, it forms a loose, woody base and can reach a modest height when grown in a container.
  
  The plant grows slowly and can reach 3 to 4 feet tall under ideal conditions, though it often remains smaller indoors. Leaves grow opposite along the stems and tend to curl slightly upward, giving the “spoon” effect that inspired the name.
