Golden Glow Sedum, botanically listed as Sedum adolphi, is a live succulent plant selected for its distinctive form and ornamental appeal. Natural color, size, form, and presentation may vary slightly with season, maturity, and growing conditions.

Sedum adolphi, commonly referred to as Golden Glow, is a vibrant and attractive succulent that brings a splash of color to any garden or indoor space. Below is a detailed overview of its morphological characteristics, growth habits, maintenance points, and reproduction methods:

Morphological Characteristics

  • Leaves: Sedum adolphi sports fleshy, spoon-shaped leaves that are a striking green color, turning golden to bright orange or even reddish under full sun or during cooler winter months. The leaves are arranged in rosettes and can create a dense, bushy appearance as the plant matures.
  • Size: It can grow up to 20-30 cm (8-12 inches) tall and spreads outwards, forming clumps.
  • Flowers: In spring, it produces star-shaped, white to slightly yellow flowers on tall, arching inflorescences, adding further appeal to its already colorful foliage.

Growth Habits

  • Light: Prefers full sun to partial shade. Bright sunlight encourages the leaves to develop their characteristic golden color.
  • Temperature: It is somewhat frost-resistant but does best in temperatures above freezing. In regions with cold winters, it is best grown as a houseplant or brought indoors during the colder months.
  • Water: Like most succulents, Sedum adolphi requires minimal watering. Allow the soil to dry out completely between waterings to prevent root rot.

Maintenance Points

  • Soil: Well-draining soil is crucial. A cactus or succulent potting mix is ideal.
  • Pot: If growing in containers, ensure pots have good drainage holes to avoid water accumulation.
  • Fertilizer: Feeding is not necessary, but a light application of a succulent fertilizer during the growing season can promote growth and flowering.
  • Pruning: Pruning is rarely needed but can be done to shape the plant or remove any damaged or diseased leaves.

Reproduction Method

  • Leaf cuttings: The simplest way to propagate Sedum adolphi is through leaf cuttings. Gently twist a leaf from the stem, let it callous over for a few days, and then place it on top of soil. Roots and a new plant will eventually form.
  • Stem cuttings: Similar to leaf cuttings, stem cuttings can be made by cutting a stem, allowing it to callous over, and then planting it in soil. This method often results in quicker growth compared to leaf cuttings.
  • Offsets: As the plant matures, it may produce small offsets around the base, which can be carefully removed and replanted to start new plants.
  • Seeds: While not the most common method, Sedum adolphi can also be grown from seeds. Sow seeds in well-draining soil and keep moist until germination.

Sedum adolphi's colorful foliage and low maintenance requirements make it a popular choice for succulent gardens, rockeries, and as a container plant. Its ease of care and vibrant coloration are especially appealing to both novice and experienced gardeners alike.

BEST? (the "R" is for relative)
I have, to date, tried four different Retinol serums (usually containing hyaluronic acid). Each of these has been in a similar price range and none of them qualifies as high-end pricing. From what I can tell each of them is as effective as the other and none of them produces "miracle elixir" results. Like most maintenance products they are only truly effective through consistent long-term use. Seeing that I have found each of the brands I have tried to be equally effective I believe it is fair to say that this brand of Retinol serum is acceptable. However, this 1 oz. bottle is one of the higher priced brands I have tried and the bottle was almost half empty when I received it. It is also perfumed and thicker than other versions and therefore harder to measure effectively (one drop is almost sufficient but two drops is too much). When you reach the bottom of the bottle, like with most of the other brands I have tried, it is impossible to get the last quarter inch of product out of the bottle using the dropper. The syringe is not long enough or flexible enough. What I have been doing is either adding a few drops of water or a few drops of Vitamin C serum to liquefy the balance so it can be shaken out onto your finger. Although use of water will obviously dilute the serum it at least allows you to use all of the product, which is a compromise I am willing to make. As recommended by most Retinol serum brands, and vice versa, I have been applying Vitamin C serum after using it. However I am not convinced that use of both products is really necessary, i.e., Retinol serum combined with a Vitamin C serum. The only sources I see strongly promoting the advantage of using both are the sources that are selling both. As someone commented in response to my initial post (which I have modified since I wish to be accurate), Retinol is not hyaluronic acid. However many Retinol products contain hyaluronic acid which is what caused my confusion. "Skin care products with hyaluronic acid are most frequently used to treat wrinkled skin although they don't replace anything the body has naturally lost. These are very effective moisturizers." Retinol is made from vitamin A, and it's in many non-prescription skin care products. Retinol's stronger counterpart is tretinoin, which is the active ingredient in Retin-A and Renova, available by prescription only. If your skin is too sensitive to use Retin-A, Retinol is an alternative, although the effects are less impressive. Retinol may improve mottled pigmentation, fine lines and wrinkles, skin texture, and skin tone and color." (Both quotes excerpted from WebMD.) "Retinol is photosensitive and should only be worn at night. Never go outside or into the sunlight with it on; this could cause adverse effects." (Huffington Post quote) (Using a sunscreen is strongly recommended by many sources because retinoid products cause increased photosensitivity.) Having researched this a bit more I feel certain that I can stop using Retinol serums altogether since my dermatologist prescribes a stronger product for evening use. I will ask him about this the next time I see him, though. He already advocates use of a Vitamin C serum but has never commented on the benefits of using it in combination with a Retinol product. However, since Retinol is photosensitive I believe eliminating it would be okay and probably to my benefit since sunscreens wear off after a while and need to be reapplied. If he advises on this subject in any way I believe might be helpful to others I will add it to my post.

YOU CANT ALWAYS GET WHAT YOU WANT, BUT THIS PRODUCT DEFINITELY DELIVERS. GLAD I PURCHASED IT.
Size: 1 Fl Oz (Pack of 1)
I've been using a $49 bottle of retinol serum and found this to be just as effective and at a much lower cost. I could tell a difference in my skin in approximately 4-5 days. I can't smell any scents or fragrances and that's a plus for me. I thought it would stay greasy on my face, but it dried within 1-2 minutes. I'll definitely order again.

The Safe Sunscreen You've Been Searching For!
Size: 3 Fl Oz (Pack of 1)
5/5, 10/10, search no longer for the perfect sunscreen, you have found it! If you know someone fair skinned who will burn in the sun while swimming, this sunscreen keeps you covered. If you are at the waterpark, just reapply as noted on the tube. This sunscreen smells amazing and keeps you from burning. The lotion isn't too thick or watery, it is just the right consistency. You will not be disappointed with this sunscreen and bonus, it is reef safe so it is environmentally friendly. I have been buying this sunscreen for years and years and will buy it again this summer!
