Sempervivum calcareum ‘Mrs. Giuseppi’ is a striking green rosette with contrasting, dark red tips. It is a fast-growing and cold-hardy Sempervivum and produces lots of offsets on very short stolons. This plant is a cultivated hybrid developed by British horticulturist Giuseppe Giuseppi in the early 20th century.

A fully grown rosette of Sempervivum ‘Mrs. Giuseppi’ typically measures 4 inches wide, while the colony of offsets can quickly spread to form attractive groundcover. The plant forms compact rosettes with fleshy, pointed leaves that can shift in color through the seasons, ranging from green to rich burgundy-red tones. This seasonal shift adds ornamental value, ensuring the plant provides interest year-round.

Like other sempervivums, it is commonly referred to as a “hen and chicks” type plant because of its habit of forming tight rosettes with numerous offsets that cluster around the main rosette.

This hybrid is best grown in rock gardens, alpine troughs, containers, and dry borders.

When it blooms, usually in summer, it produces tall flower stalks up to 8–10 inches tall, crowned with clusters of star-shaped, pinkish-purple flowers that attract pollinators like bees and butterflies.

Like other sempervivums, it is monocarpic, meaning the mother rosette will die after flowering.

When it comes to care, this Sempervivum succulent is extremely drought-tolerant and should be watered using the “soak and dry” method, allowing the soil to fully dry between watering.

Overwatering can quickly lead to root rot. Use a well-drained succulent soil mix, opens in a new tab for healthy growth of the plant.

Outdoors, it thrives in full sun, which enhances its coloration, and it is hardy in USDA zones 4–9, tolerating both cold winters and hot summers if kept dry.

Indoors, place it in the brightest location possible, such as a south-facing window, and maintain average room temperatures.

Fertilizer is rarely needed, but a light feeding with a balanced, diluted succulent fertilizer once in spring can boost growth. Pruning is minimal, mainly removing dead rosettes after they flower and cleaning away withered leaves.

The Sempervivum ‘Mrs. Giuseppi’ is non-toxic to dogs, cats, and birds, making it a safe choice for households with pets. Its unique aspects lie in its ability to withstand harsh conditions, from drought to freezing temperatures, while maintaining ornamental appeal. The seasonal shift in leaf coloration and its ability to form dense mats of rosettes give it a special place in rock gardens and succulent arrangements.

Overall, the Sempervivum ‘Mrs. Giuseppi’ is a hardy, colorful, and low-maintenance succulent that adapts well to a wide range of garden settings. Its alpine heritage and hybrid vigor make it particularly tough, while its compact rosettes and bright flowers add decorative charm. Easy to propagate, safe for pets, and long-lived in the right conditions, this plant remains a beloved choice for both beginner and experienced gardeners who appreciate the beauty of succulents that thrive with minimal care.

Great book to compare different views on Revelation
Format: Kindle
Great book to learn more about contrasting views on the book of Revelation. Unfortunately many Evangelicals do not realize that there are different ways in which the book of Revelation has been approached by Christians. This is a good primer to this discussion.

Easy Read with good case studies!!
Format: Paperback
I had to purchase this for my Advanced Pathophysiology class in my Acute Care Nurse Practitioner program. It is very easy to understand and have pretty good case studies. I like that the CD that accompanies the book goes into some detail in explaining the cases further and the disease processes without giving you the answers to the questions. It stimulates one to think!! Once this class is over I will go back from time to time to review!!

Helpful
Format: Paperback
This is a nice compliment to other classroom instruction materials. I am teaching an advanced pathophysiology course in a nurse practitioner program. This book is very helpful for students to put together the concepts of patho with the clinical setting. Will use these for in-class group assignments. Case-studies are thorough and offer a variety of different disease processes to choose from. It certainly does not offer a case study for every possible disease or clinical scenario, but does cover most major areas and enough variety in my opinion. Should be helpful in reinforcing the clinical significance of some difficult to understand concepts. I would recommend this text to course instructors.
