Native to marshes and riverbanks, sundews thrive in high-humidity, water-rich environments. They do best in sunny spots with nutrient-poor, waterlogged, lime-free soil. They’re also highly cold-tolerant, so they don’t go dormant in winter.
Sundew leaves secrete a glistening, dew-like mucus that sparkles in the sunlight, attracting insects. When bugs land, the leaves curl around them, releasing digestive enzymes to absorb nutrients.
Care Tips:
- Pot: I’m using a LeGrow short pot with a water-retaining base tray to keep the roots moist.
- Soil: Use a mix of live sphagnum or dried moss with sand or perlite. For watering, stick to distilled, RO, or rainwater.
- Lighting: LeGrow grow lights provide about 30,000 lux, set to 12 hours a day automatically. No need to adjust.
- Maintenance: Refill the base tray with water once or twice a week.
