It is easy to set up. First, fill the bag with ashes, put it in the base, then put the urn back together. Plant the tree sapling and pour 27 fl oz (800 ml) water into the urn to activate the expanding coco peat disk. Make sure the entire root area is covered in soil. When the urn starts to crack, which would be several weeks later, you can plant the entire urn in the garden or a large and deep pot or planter box.

What is the Biotree Urn made of?

The Biotree Urn is made using natural bamboo and other plant fibers, as well as natural binding agents. The center is a handmade Portuguese cork disk, with a nutrient-rich coco peat disk nested inside the cork.

Can I use a Biotree Urn with old ashes?

Yes, the Biotree Urn is designed to grow a tree irrespective of the age of the ashes.

How much cremated remains does a Biotree Urn use?

The Biotree Urn fits up to 90 cubic inches of remains. You can use less if you prefer, and the remaining remains can be stored or scattered as you like.

How long can I keep the Biotree Urn after planting a tree?

After planting a sapling or seed, the Biotree Urn itself can be kept unplanted for several weeks. This provides your family with a period of time to keep a loved one close after saying goodbye.

Can I plant a Biotree Urn in a pot?

Yes, the Biotree Urn can be planted in a pot as long as the pot is filled with nutrient-rich soil to ensure the successful and healthy growth of a tree.

How does the geotag system work?

Should the tree be placed in the urn before or after adding water?

We suggest adding water to expand the Coco-peat disk after the tree in placed into the top of the urn. Then as the Coco-peat disk expands, the soil can be gently maneuvered to create a pilot hole into which the tree root will lie.

Is it normal for water to leak from the cork divider after watering the urn?

Yes, while the root system becomes established and the cork expands, the cork divider may leak slightly. The excess liquid can simply be wiped away.

How much will the coco peat disk expand?

There’s ample soil in the disk to plant a tree, but if you see the root ball exposed after expansion you should add potting soil to cover the root ball.

Sizing Guide  

Generally, 1 Pound of person/pet equals approx. 1 cubic inch of remains. For example, a 200-pound person would need a 200 cubic inch urn or larger. However, if you have a certain size urn, most funeral homes can make certain adjustments to accommodate that size urn, within reason.
