Stunning shapes that draw the eye to the brilliant architectural form of this specimen. Flowers in Autumn, adding a twist or a great compliment to Camellia japonica’s Spring flowering.

The Japanese Camelia is a low-maintenance evergreen plant with tough, leathery leaves that often feature prominent serrations. However, in order for the plant to thrive, it requires an acidic soil, as most soils tend to be only slightly acidic or neutral. As such, it is crucial to prepare the flower bed or pot before planting by fertilising with Ericaceous fertiliser. Once established, it is recommended to fertilise the Camelia whenever it is flowering, or when the leaves start to lose their green colour, especially if they turn yellow.

 Camellia sasanqua flowers much earlier than Camellia japonica, provides a useful flowering period from October to December.

Small leathery oval green leaves.

- 250-300cm tall 

 - Blooms in late autumn to early winter. 

 - Hardy to -10c or -15 in a very sheltered spot.

It is important to plant Camellia sasanqua in a sheltered location to avoid damage to its leaves and form caused by extremely cold winter winds.

For proper soil preparation, we recommend digging a hole that is twice the size of the Camellia's root ball. Next, fill the hole with high-quality Ericaceous compost mixed with some soil. This will provide the new root with soft and nutritious material for optimal growth and strength. Soil must be Acid, it is fine to plant in lightly acidic soil, with ericaceous fertiliser in April, July and October.

That said, if you're switching over from the CeraVe Renewing SA Cleanser like I did, be prepared for a noticeably different texture. The SA Cleanser has a lighter, more gel-like feel whereas this one is significantly richer and has more of an oily texture that can feel a bit heavy, especially if you have combination skin or tend to get oily in your T-zone. For strictly dry skin it's probably perfect, but it took some getting used to for me personally.
