PLANTING

Lawsonia invermis

Annual, Perennial-zones 10 and above

Germination:  7-14 days

Germination Temperature: Optimum soil temperatures 70-75ºF

Seed Planting Depth:  Sow on the surface and press into the soil

Starting Indoors:  Start indoors 6-8 weeks before the last frost. Cold treat seed by sowing into moist soil or paper towel, wrap in a clear plastic bag and place in refrigerator for 4-5 days. Provide 70-75ºF soil temperature for germination. 

Sowing Outdoors: Not recommended 

Growth Habit:  Shrub 

Height and Width: 6-20’ 

Light Needs: Full sun 

Soil Needs: Henna needs average, dry and well-drained soil 

Uses: Ornamental, containers, dye, houseplant 

Care: Pinch seedlings back to encourage branching. Grow outside until temperatures drop below 50ºF then bring indoors over the winter. Place in a sunny spot and don't over water. It may drop its leaves but they will come back after adjusting to the indoors.
