Closely related to P. verrucosum and sharing its preference for high humidity and cool-to-intermediate temperatures, P. luxurians is distinguished by its deeply velvety, broadly cordate leaves with bold, prominently raised white to cream primary venation and a nearly closed sinus with tightly overlapping basal lobes. New leaves emerge in warm copper-green tones before deepening to the rich dark green of maturity.

• Light: Bright but soft indirect light — the dense velvet surface is sensitive to direct sun which bleaches and damages the characteristic dark coloration.

• Soil: Chunky, well-draining aroid mix of orchid bark, perlite, and coco coir; excellent drainage essential. Never waterlogged.

• Temperature/Humidity: Cool to intermediate temperatures between 60-75°F; high humidity of 70-80% is non-negotiable — one of the more humidity-demanding philodendrons, with edge browning the first symptom of insufficient moisture in the air.

• Watering: Allow the top inch of medium to approach dryness between waterings; water thoroughly and drain completely. Consistent moisture without waterlogging is the target.

• Fertilizer: Feed with a balanced liquid fertilizer every 4 weeks during active growth; supplement with calcium and magnesium for best leaf quality. Reduce in winter.
