Linum lewisii

Blue Flax is truly one of the most lovely all-blue flowering plants, showcasing narrow blue-green leaves on elegant 2' tall stems. This delightful native wildflower treats us to wonderful displays of tiny, satiny, sky-blue or lavender-to-white flowers every morning from early to late summer.

It's incredibly easy to grow and establishes quickly, bursting with blooms starting its second year. With expanding clumps of stalks, it features flowers that range from 1/2 to 1 inch wide, creating a continuous flow of colors that last a day, while fresh blossoms greet us each morning. Darker blue veins often beautifully accentuate the delicate petals.

In organic agriculture, blue flax plays a vital role by attracting and increasing beneficial insect diversity. It also enriches nutrients back into the topsoil and the shallow root zone.

This adaptable gem is tolerant of drought, heat, and even cold weather. It’s named "lewisii" to honor the explorer Meriwether Lewis from the famous Lewis & Clark expedition, as it was spotted during their journey across the plains. Native to western North America, you can find it from Alaska all the way down to Baja California and along the Pacific Coast, extending east to the Mississippi River.

It also attracts smaller bees, including solitary bees, and many butterfly species, while its seeds and capsules provide a tasty snack for birds in the fall and winter. Plus, its robust root systems help stabilize the soil, reduce erosion, and enhance the ground by mobilizing phosphorus and adding organic matter—giving us a source for flax fiber, flaxseed, and linseed oil.

Also commonly known as Wild Blue Flax, Prairie Flax, and Lewis Flax.

A good overview
Format: Kindle
This book covers just about all of the key aspects and people you will find in Western mysticism. It will not give you anything new if you are already steeped in esoteric lore, but it can be a good review. Although I wish the author would have given an example or two of certain vague concepts (such as "correspondences"). I also did not care about the last chapter: It could have had a bit more critical sense concerning the supposed "scientific" evidence for New Age theories. Also, the author soberly reports equally the various theories of so many esotericists without any criticism. That is okay, but I cringe a bit when I think of the sometimes less than honest behavior of some these gurus of mysticism.

An informative survey of a neglected field
Format: Hardcover
Goodrick-Clarke provides an excellent overview of esoteric traditions in western religions, philosophies, and systems of thought. He begins in the Greco-Roman period, and ends at the modern New Age movement. In between Goodrick-Clarke takes the reader on a somewhat wild ride among diverse systems of theosophy, spiritual psychology, occult magic, metaphysical speculation, and more. For anyone unfamiliar with these trends, this book will be very informative. A wide base of material is presented in a readable and enjoyable manner.

It hits your heart in vulnerable and needed places.
Format: Paperback
I believe our greatest desire to be loved is fulfilled through being heard, seen and fully known. Oh how we long for that. Dr. Saundra Dalton-Smith knows this need in women’s lives and writes about it to encourage others because she has lived it. I love how she weaves Biblical truths with personal stories to create deep understanding and insight. But she doesn’t leave us there; she challenges us so gently, practically and wisely move into being fully known. Saundra is a master with words that draw us in to see ourselves in a beautiful and intimate relationship with our creator. The only ONE who truly knows us. Whether you’ve been a Christ follower for over 50 years or just discovering who Jesus is, this book will inject new hunger and depth into your spiritual soul.

Finding your sacred work & place of belonging
Format: Paperback, Format: Paperback
This book has spoken directly to my heart as I read about beholding the blessings of God's unfailing & faithful love, His true joy, His sovereignty & peace, His kindness & compassion & His pure goodness as I pursue holiness & righteousness. I found the practical application & daily unveiling exercises to be helpful as I work to become what I behold God to be. The section on belonging spoke personally to me as I have chosen the word "Belonging" as my Word of the Year for 2025. I now realize that only through belonging in God's abundant blessings in every aspect of my life will I find my sacred work & my true place of belonging to God & with others. I recommend this book if you are searching for true meaning in truly & fully knowing God, yourself & your place of belonging.
