Washingtonia Robusta Palm Tree - Comprehensive UK Market Description

Overview:
Washingtonia robusta, commonly known as the Mexican Fan Palm or Skyduster, is a fast-growing, elegant palm that brings a slice of the Californian or Mediterranean landscape to the UK. Native to northwestern Mexico, this palm is celebrated for its slender, towering trunk and large, fan-shaped leaves that create a dramatic silhouette. It's an ideal choice for those looking to add a touch of tropical flair to their gardens, even in Britain's cooler climate.

Key Features:
- Growth: Known for its rapid growth rate, it can reach heights of up to 25 meters with a relatively thin trunk that swells at the base.
- Foliage: Features impressive, large fan leaves that can span up to 1.5 meters, providing a lush, green canopy. Leaves are palmate with a characteristic "threaded" edge.
- Hardiness: While not as cold-hardy as some palms, it can tolerate temperatures down to -5°C with protection, making it suitable for milder UK regions or in sheltered spots.
- Light and Placement: Loves full sun but can tolerate partial shade. Requires well-drained soil. A great choice for avenues, large gardens, or as a statement piece in more spacious landscapes.
- Watering: Once established, it's drought-tolerant, but young trees benefit from regular watering to support growth.

Care Tips:
- Soil: Prefers sandy or loamy, well-drained soil. Good drainage is key to prevent root rot.
- Feeding: Use a balanced, slow-release palm fertilizer in spring and summer to promote healthy growth.
- Winter Care: In the UK, protect by wrapping the trunk with insulating materials like hessian or fleece, and consider covering the crown during severe frosts.

Sustainability & Sourcing:
Our Washingtonia robusta palms are sourced from nurseries committed to sustainable practices, ensuring you contribute to biodiversity while enhancing your garden.

Ideal Uses:
- Ideal for creating a Mediterranean or tropical look in larger gardens or estates.
- Perfect for lining driveways or walkways to mimic iconic California landscapes.
- Can be used in large containers for a few years before planting in the ground.

Availability:
From smaller specimens for container gardening to mature trees for immediate impact, various sizes are available.

Delivery: Free delivery across the UK mainland, with options for delivery at optimal planting times.

FAQ Section:

Q: How cold can Washingtonia robusta tolerate?
A: It can handle brief spells down to -5°C with protection. In colder UK climates, more extensive winter care is advisable.

Q: How fast does the Mexican Fan Palm grow?
A: It's one of the faster-growing palms, adding significant height each year under good conditions.

Q: Can I grow this palm in a pot?
A: Yes, for a few years, but due to its growth rate and eventual size, it's best to plant in the ground for long-term development.

Q: Does Washingtonia robusta need a lot of sun?
A: It thrives in full sun but can adapt to partial shade. The more sun it gets, the better it grows.

Q: What's the best way to water this palm?
A: Water deeply but allow the soil to dry slightly between waterings. Overwatering can lead to root issues.

Q: How do I protect this palm in winter in the UK?
A: Use frost cloth or burlap to wrap the trunk and insulate the crown with straw or mulch during harsh winters. Consider moving potted palms to a sheltered spot.

Q: Is Washingtonia robusta invasive in the UK?
A: It's not typically considered invasive, but due to its fast growth, careful placement and maintenance are recommended to manage its spread.

By introducing Washingtonia robusta to your garden, you're not just planting a tree; you're creating a landmark of tropical elegance that will be a testament to your garden's character for years to come

Durable
Color: S6-muti-color
The balls are great for chewers. The squeaky didn’t last long but they are perfect for the ball launcher.

The squeeker isn't durable, but the balls themselves are.
Color: S6-muti-color, Color: S6-muti-color
I have two 70+lb, ball obsessed dogs (a field bred Golden Retriever, and an Old Time Scotch Collie), and these balls are living up to the abuse they're receiving. In the fall we always lose a ball or two in the yard due to getting lost in leaves or longer grass, so I always try and buy a multi pack at the start of the season, so went with these this year. I'm glad I did. Great price for a 6 pack, they fit the medium Chuck-It launcher (a little loosely, but they throw just fine), have great bounce, they FLOAT (which means I didn't lose any at the beach), and they're super durable to the dreaded "mouth squish." The squeaker dies pretty quick, like, within a day, but it isn't the kind that can fall out or choke your dog, so no worries there. The boys are happy, I'm happy, my wallet is happy - I've already ordered another pack.

Disappointed
Color: S6-muti-color
These were great for about 20 minutes then they stopped squeaking...we have 2 left that I have saved but the other 4 do not squeak anymore...disappointed as my dog loves to squeak things...would not buy these again...My dog is only an 8lb dog too...but he can still play with the balls without the squeak...

Great Value for a ball my dog loves!
Color: S6-muti-color
I wish these ball were in the subscription program! My dog gets sooo excited by the new ball, but her interest in things lasts for a few days. She kills the squeak within 11minutes, but the squeaker stays in place rather than becoming a chocking or swallow hazard, and she still loves to chew it. Next, we must throw the ball approximately 723 times the first day, possibly 496 times on day 2, and just 3- 4 on day 3, at which point she will chase the ball before hollering "it's over here if you need it," while she checks on the chipmunk den. We currently have 17 of these balls in our yard (because we have given several leftovers to a less discriminating doodle next door). These balls hold up really well, get her extremely active for the first couple of days, and are a much cheaper than doggie daycare (after an active morning with a new ball, she is happy to chew on it and sleep much of the day). I always have these on hand!
