What makes Green Velvet Boxwood special?

A cold-hardy evergreen with glossy foliage that stays vibrant green year-round, perfect for hedges and topiaries in zones 5-9.

What Growing Conditions Does It Need?

Green Velvet Boxwood thrives in USDA zones 5-9 and handles both full sun and partial shade (4-6 hours daily). It prefers well-drained soil with slightly acidic to neutral pH and grows to a compact 3-4 feet tall and wide. In zone 9's extreme heat, provide afternoon shade for best results.

How Do I Plant and Care for Green Velvet Boxwood?

Plant your boxwood in spring or fall, spacing them 2-3 feet apart for hedging. Dig a hole twice as wide as the root ball and plant at the same depth it was growing in the container. Water thoroughly after planting and apply 2 inches of mulch around the base.

For ongoing care, water consistently during the first year, then deeply during dry spells once established. Fertilize in spring with a balanced slow-release fertilizer. Light pruning in late winter or early spring maintains its naturally rounded shape - this boxwood care guide covers trimming techniques.

What Are the Key Benefits?

Green Velvet gives you evergreen structure without the high maintenance. Its dense, compact growth creates perfect low hedges and borders without constant trimming. The glossy green foliage stays vibrant through winter when most plants look drab.

This variety won both the 1997 Styer Award and 1998 Michigan Growers' Choice Award for good reason - it's exceptionally cold hardy compared to other boxwoods. Once established, it's drought-tolerant and adapts to various soil conditions, making it ideal for formal hedge designs.

What Should I Know Before Buying?

Green Velvet Boxwood grows slowly, adding 3-4 inches per year, so buy larger plants if you need an immediate impact. Plant in spring or early fall for best establishment before temperature extremes. While deer-resistant, protect young plants in areas with heavy deer pressure.

This boxwood pairs beautifully with colorful perennials like Russian Sage or Lavender for contrast. For a classic look, combine with other versatile boxwood varieties to create knot gardens or formal borders. Container growing works well for patios - just ensure adequate drainage and winter protection in zones 5-6.

Great for Indy Comic and Zine Covers
Size: 11"X17"
I use both the 11x17 and 8.5x11 Koala Glossy Inkjet papers as cover stock for Night Phoenix Press mini comics and zines, most often as Kickstarter add-ons or promo items. For that role, they deliver. The gloss finish immediately gives even short-run projects a polished, professional look with the other side having a matte finish which I can flip over for sketch covers using the matte side for the exterior cover. Colors print vibrant, blacks are strong, and the surface takes ink evenly without streaking. The finish looks clean enough to pass for offset printing on both inkjet and laser printers. This paper is also great for comic covers because it can fold down the middle without splitting the gloss coating too much if at all. The 8.5x11.5 works just as well for minis, one-shot zines or inserts. Between the two sizes, I can cover nearly every indie project format I need. They have just enough weight to feel like a true cover while still running smoothly through an inkjet printer. These books are often handled by backers or used as handouts, so durability matters. The stock holds up, though glossy paper can pick up fingerprints or light scuffs if stacked loosely. Bagging finished copies or boxing them quickly solves that. For the cost, it’s a dependable option that makes Kickstarter rewards and promo zines look far more professional than plain paper covers. For creators producing indie comics, add-ons, or zines on a budget, this paper is one of the easiest ways to elevate presentation without driving up printing costs. -Nathyn Brendan Masters

Ausurion products protection
Asurion is a great company to insure your products whenever you purchase items from online businesses like, Amazon. I had a portable hot spot device ordering from Amazon with a 3-year protection plan, unfortunately, the device has accidentally fallen and refused to turn on, then I went on Asurion Online website and filled in a claim and waited for approval to take that device for repair, luckily, they do not haven’t repaired shop services near me, they just refunded the original item price to me by Amazon Gift cards without knowing it few days than expected. I highly recommend Asurion for your product insurance needs.

Assuring takes care of their customers.
Asurion was the best purchase you can have when buying electronics. We purchased a HP printer, which we have always had excellent luck with, but this one was a lemon from the beginning. We called Asurion and they immediately took care of the problem. Thank you.
