Philodendron melanochrysum produces long, pendant, heart-shaped leaves covered in a fine velvet nap that catches the light with thousands of tiny golden crystalline flecks, giving the foliage a dark, iridescent shimmer. Young leaves emerge a warm bronze before deepening to near-black green as they mature. It is a climbing species that responds dramatically to vertical support: give it a moss pole and the leaves will grow significantly larger and more impressive.

Origins
Native to the wet montane forests of Colombia and Ecuador, Philodendron melanochrysum grows as a hemiepiphyte, climbing from the forest floor into the canopy in humid, shaded conditions at moderate elevations.
