Introducing the Peperomia axillaris, which is a charming and popular houseplant that belongs to the Peperomia genus. This perennial epiphyte native to South America, is also known as the taco leaf plant or radiator plant, that thrives in warm and tropical regions. This delightful plant is loved for its unique foliage and compact size, making it a great addition to any indoor or outdoor space.

The Peperomia axillaris with bright green pea pod-shaped foliage, thrives in a shady jungle understory with translucent "leaf windows" that allow sunlight to irradiate the leaf interior, allowing it to survive.

Peperomia axillaris is a compact plant that typically reaches a mature height of around 12 inches tall.

This petite size makes it an excellent choice for small spaces, such as desks, shelves, or terrariums.

Its compact growth habit also makes it suitable for hanging baskets or as a trailing plant.

The Peperomia axillaris flower is usually greenish-white and appears on thin Peperomia flower stalks that emerge from the leaf axils.

These teeny tiny flowers bloom in the spring. However, it's important to note that flowering is relatively rare in indoor settings.

When it comes to Peperomia axillaris propagation, this unique shrub-like succulent can be easily propagated through stem cuttings. To propagate a healthy stem cutting, remove lower leaves, place in a well-draining potting mix, keep soil moist, and provide indirect light. Roots should develop within weeks.

Watering Needs

When it comes to watering, the peperomia axillaris prefers a slightly different approach compared to other houseplants. It thrives when the top inch of soil dries out between waterings. This means you should allow the soil to dry out a bit before giving it a good drink. It's critical to strike the correct balance because overwatering can result in root rot and other problems.

To determine when it's time to water, you can use the "finger test." Simply stick your finger into the soil up to the first knuckle. If the soil feels dry at that depth, it's time to water. If it still feels slightly moist, it's best to wait a bit longer.

Another important aspect of watering the peperomia axillaris is to avoid getting water on the leaves. This plant is prone to rot if water sits on its leaves for too long. To prevent this, it's best to water the soil directly at the base of the plant, rather than overhead watering.

Remember, every plant is unique, and factors like temperature, humidity, and the type of potting mix used can affect watering needs. Observing your peperomia axillaris closely and adjusting your watering routine accordingly will help you provide the right amount of water for optimal growth.

Light Requirements

When growing indoors, the Peperomia axillaris prefers bright, indirect light. It thrives in a spot where it receives bright, filtered sunlight throughout the day. Placing it near a north or east-facing window is usually ideal. Avoid placing it in direct sunlight, as this can scorch the leaves.

If you don't have access to natural bright light indoors, you can also provide artificial light using fluorescent or LED grow lights. Position the lights about 6 to 12 inches above the plant and keep them on for about 12 to 14 hours a day to mimic natural daylight.

When growing outdoors, this Peperomia axillaris plant does well in partial shade to filtered sunlight. It can tolerate some direct morning sunlight, but it's best to protect it from intense afternoon sun, which can cause leaf burn. Consider placing it in a location that receives dappled sunlight or where it is shaded by taller plants or structures during the hottest part of the day. This will help maintain the right balance of light for optimal growth.

Optimal Soil & Fertilizer Needs

The Peperomia axillaris prefers sandy, well-drained soil, as excess moisture can promote root and stem rot. Planet Desert specializes in succulents and has specialized succulent potting soil that includes an organic substrate with mycorrhizae to help with the growth of a healthy root system to help your succulents thrive. As an okay alternative, you can create your own potting mix by combining equal portions of perlite, coarse sand, and good natural potting soil.

For fertilization, the Peperomia axillaris don't require heavy feeding. You can use a balanced, water-soluble NPK fertilizer with a ratio of 5-10-5 or a similar NPK (nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium) ratio. Dilute the fertilizer to half or quarter strength and apply it once a month during the growing season, which is typically spring and summer.

Remember to always follow the instructions on the fertilizer packaging for proper dilution and application. An accumulation of salt in the soil caused by overfertilization may be detrimental to the plant.

It's better to err on the side of caution and provide a little less fertilizer than too much.

Additionally, it's a good practice to flush the soil occasionally to remove any excess salts. You can do this by thoroughly watering the plant until water drains out from the bottom of the pot. This helps prevent salt buildup and keeps the soil fresh.

Hardiness Zone & More

When growing indoors, the peperomia axillaris thrives in average room temperatures between 65°F and 75°F. It can tolerate slightly cooler temperatures down to 60°F but should be protected from drafts and sudden temperature fluctuations. Avoid placing it near heating vents or air conditioning units as these can create hot or cold spots.

In terms of humidity, the peperomia axillaris prefers moderate to high humidity levels. Aim for a humidity range of 50% to 60% to keep the plant happy. You can increase humidity by placing a tray filled with water near the plant or using a humidifier in the room. Misting the leaves occasionally can also help provide a boost of moisture.

For outdoor cultivation, it is suitable in USDA zones 9-11.  It can tolerate temperatures as low as 50°F but is most comfortable in temperatures between 70°F and 85°F. If you live in a dry climate, you can create a microclimate for the plant by grouping it with other plants or placing it in a shaded area where it can benefit from the natural humidity created by nearby foliage.

Final Thoughts

Overall, the Peperomia axillaris is a wonderful plant among Peperomia varieties, that offers a variety of appealing features. With its compact size, unique teardrop-shaped leaves, and glossy green foliage, it adds a touch of beauty and freshness to any space. Whether you choose to grow it indoors or outdoors, this charming plant is relatively easy to care for. It prefers bright, indirect light and well-draining soil. Water it moderately, allowing the top inch of soil to dry out between waterings. Additionally, it appreciates a bit of humidity, so misting the leaves occasionally can be beneficial.

Decent robot vacuum, but struggles with dog hair
The setup was straightforward and the self-empty station is a nice feature. It navigates the house fairly well and does a decent job picking up everyday dust and debris on hard floors. Where it struggles is with dog hair. With a shedding dog in the house, I noticed it tends to leave behind quite a bit of hair, especially along edges and in areas where it tends to accumulate. It works better for lighter debris but doesn’t seem powerful enough to keep up with heavier pet hair. Pros: Easy setup and app integration Self-empty station is convenient Navigates rooms fairly well Cons: Struggles with dog hair Not as strong as expected for pet households Bottom Line: This vacuum works fine for general cleaning and light debris, but if you have a dog that sheds a lot, it may not keep up as well as expected. For pet owners specifically, it might not be the best fit.

Very Disappointed with this Vacuum
After having a Shark Robot Vacuum for many years, my husband decided to upgrade to newer technology (easier boundary settings, better mapping etc) On a good note, when this thing works - it works great. One of my biggest complaints with the Shark was I had to put physical boundary strips at the top of the stairs etc. This Eufy is very easy to set "no go zones" on the app, works famously in that aspect. This vac also seems to "work" in a more organized manner. I can see on the app exactly what was cleaned after every scheduled cleaning etc. The Shark would just buzz around the house all willy nilly, but this Eufy seems to be very organized in the cleaning, not missing anywhere. Now for the most aggravating part. I have my Eufy scheduled to clean every night @ 1:00 am, while we are sleeping. Most nights @ 1:15 am I get a notification on my phone "Roller Brush Stuck". Well obviously I don't see the notification until morning. I go "find" Eufy (which is easy with the app - shows you right where she is - another nice thing compared to the Shark) Pull the Roller Brush, which mind you, nothing is wrong with, it is not stuck, there is nothing wrapped around it etc. Put it back in & restart. This has done this since day one, brand new out of the box. After doing some scouring of the Internet, I see that this is a big complaint with many other owners of this model. From what I gather, Eufy is aware of this and it is a known problem. I called Eufy Customer Care after about using this for one week. The phone call lasted over 45 minutes (part of my life that I will never get back!) Now mind you, the representative was very helpful & thorough. We walked through a couple procedures, (The Rep had me pull the roller brush etc & report to her what I was "seeing") Which again, I had performed everything the Rep had me do religiously for the past week, but No, she like wouldn't take my word for it, I had to do all this again while on the phone with her - - almost like she didn't believe me at first. Next, the Rep offered to send me a "newer design roller brush" Ok, cool, if it solves the problem let's do it - I just wanted to get off the phone & on with my day. Oh wait, there are no new design roller brushes in stock. Now I'm told to send just the robot back (not the dock) I told the Rep to send me a call tag, as I wasn't going to pay shipping on a "brand new used one week" item. Oh wait, now she has located the replacement roller brushes. So here we are back to the original solution, she will send me a replacement roller brush. Took my name, my address, phone number, name of first & last born children etc. Just a long drawn out process to send me the "fix" for their known manufacture problem. So to make my long story even longer, here I sit a month and a 1/2 later without ever receiving the replacement brush and an unreliable product who doesn't complete her "mission" most nights. I wish this vacuum was still within the 30 day Amazon return period, because I would have sent it back after experiencing this defect. However my husband had bought this for me for Christmas (before the date that Amazon offers their extended holiday returns window) I didn't even unbox this vacuum before the 30 days were up. The App with the mapping & the expansive scheduling options is great compared to the Shark, but I bought the Eufy to vacuum, which she fails @ nightly.

Absolutely amazing! Working flawlessly for over a month, so far.
Color: White
I am very pleased with the performance so far. The strengths are the ease of setup, the accuracy of its mapping and carpet/floor recognition, the quality of its cleaning and mopping, and the entertainment of just watching. There are weaknesses. The documentation is sparse and pretty useless and tech support has been ghosting me..no responses. So hunt and peck with the App, mostly. Hard to really customize by trial and error. While it vacuums very well, it does not empty as well, really requiring the owner to manually empty the dust bin. No big deal. Maintenance recommendations are hidden on the website and I suspect it is advisable to do some maintenance after every use. The strengths win, however.

User friendly, Pet Hair Approved, Quite Powerful Robot Vacuum
Color: White
We prviously had an Eureka E10 vacuum and mop robot for 4 years. We had no idea what we were missing until we purchased this Narwal Freo X10 Pro. It maps very fast. It is extremely quite. The vacuum then mop with a refreshed mop head solution is much better than dragging around a robot mop pad with no way to clean it without removing and washing it. We have 3 Australian Sheppards that shed alot. This was the number one concern, whereas the prvious unit needed daily attention. Not a single hair tangle in the floating rotating brush of this unique Narwal Freo X10 Pro Robot vacuum. 4 months of no robot management is wonderful. The application was easy to use with a ton of customizable options. The AI option to recognize various floor types and throw rugs ensures a complete clean and quick simple setup. Lastly the price vs product was very reasonable. Great product! After spending many months researching, we are glad we made this investment.

After five months, it's basically a brick
Color: White
We've had this robot for five months, and it isn't durable. It worked fine for a couple months. But now it works fine for maybe 20 minutes and then just starts spinning around or going back in forth in the same area wasting its battery. The endless troubleshooting does not help. Cleaning all the sensors, resetting the robot, remapping the house ... Nothing helps. It is only being used in about 1100 sq ft of total space, so it's just not that complicated. It's been trying (and failing) to vacuum our smallish living room for nearly five hours, after several resets/etc. Back when it did function, the vacuum is rather loud if you want it to actually pick up anything big enough to see. The vacuum and mop are both terrible at inner corners, and the intersection between rugs and hardwood flooring is a total miss. There's like a 12" strip along all rugs where mopping never occurs. Definitely not a machine to be used without supplemental sweeping and mopping. The machine insists on starting rugs at the corner, so it pulls up even pretty heavy rugs sometimes. It's sucks up items like socks instead of avoiding them. Also, the machine has never successfully left alone no-vacuum rugs or no-go areas, so some rooms (like with high pile rugs or Christmas tree stands) just don't work without physical barricades. Really, really makes me miss the old reliable roombas...
