Snake Plant (Sansevieria spp.)

Snake Plant is a dependable, low-maintenance houseplant that adds clean structure and lasting greenery to almost any indoor space. Its upright, moisture-storing leaves tolerate missed waterings and adapt to a wide range of light levels, making it a strong fit for busy homes and offices. The bold, architectural form helps rooms feel more finished, whether you style one plant as a statement or group several together for impact. With simple care and good drainage, it stays attractive year-round with minimal attention.

Distinctive Features

Sansevieria forms sturdy, upright leaves that range from narrow spears to broader swords, often marked with banding, striping, or variegation in greens, silvers, and yellows. The foliage is thick and durable, storing moisture and helping the plant handle dry indoor air and inconsistent watering. Many types grow as clumps, staying tidy and vertical, while compact forms create rosettes that fit easily on shelves and desktops. Mature size varies widely by type, but many indoor selections grow about 12 to 48 inches tall and 8 to 24 inches wide.

Growing Conditions

  • Light: Bright indirect light is ideal, but most types tolerate low light and some gentle direct sun when acclimated.
  • Soil: Use a well-draining potting mix, such as a cactus or succulent blend, in a pot with drainage.
  • Water: Water only when the soil has dried out, since overwatering is the most common problem.
  • Temperature: Prefers typical indoor temperatures and should be protected from cold drafts and frost.
  • Mature Size: Commonly 12 to 48 inches tall and 8 to 24 inches wide, depending on the type and container size.
  • Humidity: Average indoor humidity is fine, and no special humidity support is needed.

Ideal Uses

  • Focal Point: Use as a focal point where the upright form can anchor a room corner and add clean vertical lines.
  • Low-Light Rooms: Place in spaces with less natural light where many houseplants struggle.
  • Office Plants: Keep at work for a durable plant that stays neat with minimal care.
  • Entryway Accent: Position near an entry to create an immediate, structured look that feels intentional and polished.
  • Mixed Plant Groupings: Pair with trailing or broad-leaved plants to create contrast and make arrangements look more designed.

Low Maintenance Care

  • Watering: Let the pot dry between waterings, then water thoroughly and drain excess water.
  • Light Adjustment: Rotate the pot occasionally to keep growth even, especially in lower light.
  • Cleaning: Wipe leaves with a dry or lightly damp cloth to remove dust and keep foliage looking sharp.
  • Repotting: Repot every few years when crowded, using fresh, well-draining mix and a stable pot.
  • Feeding: Fertilize lightly in spring and summer, and avoid feeding during low-light winter months.

Why Choose Snake Plant?

  • Low Effort Success: Tolerates missed waterings and stays attractive with a simple routine.
  • Light Flexibility: Adapts well to a wide range of indoor light levels.
  • Strong Structure: Upright leaves add clean lines and modern architecture to interiors.
  • Space Friendly Options: Available in compact rosettes and taller forms to fit many rooms.
  • Durable Greenery: Thick leaves handle dry indoor air and everyday conditions with ease.

Snake Plant is an easy way to add dependable greenery and bold structure without complicating your routine. Give it sharp drainage, let it dry between waterings, and place it in steady indoor light for best performance. Whether you choose a compact form or a taller statement plant, it delivers a polished look that holds up day after day.

A Highly Anticipated Revelation Commentary!
Format: Hardcover
Tom Schreiner is one of my favorite New Testament Bible commentators. Having used his Romans commentary (now in its second edition), as well as his commentaries on 1 Corinthians and 1-2 Peter and Jude, I recommend him highly! I read much of his shorter commentary on Revelation in the ESV Expository Commentary series, and found it to be a wonderful help to get my bearings on this challenging book. This full length Baker commentary I have been anticipating for several years and finally have gotten a copy. While I am not persuaded of his rather novel (and newly held!) view on the Millenium, called New Creation Millenialism, I find his basic approach to the book a wonderful antidote to both the more Dispensational and the more preterist approaches to the book. Schreiner's arguments that Revelation is highly symbolic and recursive (non-linear/recapitulatory) I have found extremely persuasive and greatly affect how one reads the Apocalypse.

Wonderful exegetical commentary
Format: Hardcover
This replaces Grant Osborne's 2002 commetary on Revelation in the Baker series. The introduction is concise. The scholarship is inspring. The treatment of the seven letters to the seven churches is the best I've seen. Schreiner defends a premillenial view called "new creation" millenialism, which sees the thousand year reign of Christ and the saints as both an eschatological "sabbath" and also as the initial age of the New Heaven and Earth (eternity). In my opinion he does surpass Osborne on this subject, though Osborne's commentary remains outstanding in every way. Whatever your leanings on the millennium might be, Schreiner's excursus into that subject before treating Rev. 20 is as good as an excursus gets and worth the price of the book by itself. I found his resolutions of the major issues both compelling and uplifting. Buy it.

Technical in detail, but highly readable.
Format: Hardcover
This is an excellent commentary on Revelation alone or alongside other commentaries. Schreiner interacts with other scholars in the field, summarizing the interpretive options, and constantly reaches a theologically solid conclusion. You won't be disappointed!

Not great, not bad
Format: Hardcover
There are a few sections that are stand-outs. He's a pleasant writer, but over all not much new ground plowed.
