Alpenglow Graptosedum, botanically listed as Graptosedum 'Alpenglow', is a live succulent plant selected for its distinctive form and ornamental appeal. Natural color, size, form, and presentation may vary slightly with season, maturity, and growing conditions.

Graptosedum 'Alpenglow', also known as 'Vera Higgins', is a beautiful hybrid succulent plant that exhibits a striking blend of colors and is popular among succulent enthusiasts. Here’s a detailed look at its morphological characteristics, growth habits, maintenance points, and reproduction methods:

Morphological Characteristics

  • Leaves: The leaves of Graptosedum 'Alpenglow' are thick, fleshy, and spoon-shaped, exhibiting a stunning range of colors from green to pink to a vibrant orange-red, especially when grown in bright sunlight. The leaves form rosettes that can grow up to 6 inches (15 cm) in diameter.
  • Size: This plant typically grows up to 6-8 inches (15-20 cm) tall and spreads outwards, creating a ground-cover effect in gardens or clusters in pots.
  • Flowers: It blooms in late winter to early spring, producing small star-shaped flowers that are usually yellow or white, adding an extra layer of beauty to the already colorful plant.

Growth Habits

  • Light: Prefers full sun to partial shade. The colors become more vibrant with exposure to more sunlight but should be protected from intense midday sun in hot climates to prevent scorching.
  • Temperature: It is fairly cold hardy, able to withstand temperatures as low as 20°F (-6°C), but it should be protected from frost to avoid damage.
  • Water: Like most succulents, Graptosedum 'Alpenglow' requires minimal watering. Allow the soil to completely dry out between waterings, and water less frequently during the winter months.

Maintenance Points

  • Soil: Requires well-draining soil. A cactus or succulent potting mix is ideal, possibly amended with sand or pumice for improved drainage.
  • Pot: When grown in containers, ensure they have adequate drainage holes to prevent water from pooling at the bottom.
  • Fertilizer: Feeding is not generally necessary but applying a diluted low-nitrogen succulent fertilizer in the growing season (spring and summer) can support vigorous growth.
  • Pruning: Dead or damaged leaves should be removed to maintain health and appearance. Trimming back can encourage a bushier growth habit.

Reproduction Method

  • Offsets: Graptosedum 'Alpenglow' can produce offsets or pups around the base of the plant. These can be gently separated and replanted to propagate new plants.
  • Leaf cuttings: Leaves can be easily propagated. Simply twist a leaf from the stem, allow it to callous over for a few days, and then place it on well-draining soil until it roots and begins to grow.
  • Stem cuttings: Stem cuttings can also be used for propagation. Cut a piece of the stem, let it dry and callous for a few days, then plant it in well-draining soil. It will root and grow into a new plant.

Graptosedum 'Alpenglow' is celebrated for its ease of care and striking appearance, making it a favorite for succulent gardens, container arrangements, and as a standalone specimen. Its vibrant colors and easy propagation make it a joy for beginners and experienced gardeners alike.

Beautiful and functional
This is the first espresso distribution tool I've ever used, so I wasn't sure if it would really make a difference. I haven't had a home espresso machine for 15+ years, so I figured now that I am home more, I'd get all the accessories to do it right. This is a beautiful piece that is very functional. It's simple to use to even out the grounds to provide for a more even flow of water through the coffee. Since I got this and used it from my very first espresso, I actually didn't test doing it without this tool to see if it made a noticeable difference. Because I've never used one before, I'm not sure what features to compare to others, so I don't know if the current $24.99 is good or not. It seems high for such a simple product, and I probably would never consider getting it if I hadn't been given the opportunity to get one through the Amazon Vine program. But as part of my new espresso routine, I do think it contributes to making a delicious cup of coffee. It certainly can't hurt and is part of my regular ritual now.

As a passionate home barista, I recently incorporated the WDT Espresso Distribution Tool into my espresso routine, and I am absolutely thrilled with the results. This tool is a game-changer, providing unparalleled precision in coffee distribution. Here's why it deserves a solid 5-star review: Pros: Seven Needle Design: The 0.35mm seven needles of the WDT tool are ingeniously crafted, ensuring uniform distribution of coffee grounds in the portafilter. This results in a more consistent and even extraction, elevating the quality of each shot. Eliminates Clumping: One of the standout features is its ability to eliminate clumping effectively. The fine needles effortlessly break up any clumps in the coffee grounds, guaranteeing a smooth and even bed for tamping. User-Friendly: The WDT tool is incredibly easy to use. The ergonomic design allows for a comfortable grip, and the needles move smoothly through the coffee grounds. It has become an essential part of my pre-brew routine, taking only seconds to create a uniform coffee bed. Sturdy Build: The build quality is top-notch. The stainless steel construction not only gives the tool a premium feel but also ensures durability. It's a tool that feels like it's built to last, making it a worthwhile investment for any espresso enthusiast. Enhanced Espresso Flavor: The consistent distribution achieved with the WDT tool translates to a more balanced and flavorful espresso. The precision it offers has noticeably improved the taste profile of my shots. Easy to Clean: Cleaning the WDT tool is a breeze. The design minimizes any grounds getting stuck, and a quick rinse under water is all it takes to keep it ready for the next use. Sturdy tool for improving coffee distribution
Color: Black
For those who do not know what this tool does: The Weiss Distribution Technique (WDT) is a distribution method for espresso making, by which you use the tool to stir the coffee while it sits in the portafilter. You should use a portafilter funnel of the same size to avoid spilling grinds. The stirring action breaks up clumps and evens out the density of coffee within the puck. The result is reduced channeling and more even extractions. Who needs this tool: Those without a conical burr grinder, where the oil and variety of grind sizing may cause clumping, will benefit from this tool. Those with a decent conical burr grinder will find minimal benefit from this tool. I'm using a Breville Pro and do not see a huge improvement myself, for example. Quality: The build quality of this tool is excellent. You can add from one to seven needles, with many folks saying three is the sweet spot for best distribution. I've been using it for over a month and none of the needles have bent. The stand is solid aluminum and well-made, but it doubles as a protector of the needles. I just clean with a quick rinse and a wipe before returning it to its stand. Outcome: I did not realize most of the info above until after purchase. So my puck is solid, the pull is clean, and my coffee tastes great with a Breville Pro. However, this tool has a minimal amount to do with that. It is a worthwhile tool for those with a lower-end grinder, especially non-Burr grinders, and it is aesthetically-pleasing and well-made, which is why I rate it 5 stars overall. It also is of good value compared to more expensive variants.

Top quality tool that improves espresso extraction
Color: Gray
Fantastic and easy to use. Stand sits on top of espresso machine and the WDT tool is always ready, no unscrewing. Upgraded from a screw-shut version and couldn't be happier. Comes with extra needles which I hope to never need. Easy to recommend
