Named for its striking tricolor inflorescence, Tillandsia tricolor is a captivating epiphyte native to the woods of Mexico and Central America. This stemless beauty, discovered by Schlechtendal & Chamisso in 1831, brings a vibrant splash of color to its forest home.

Key features:

  • Dense rosette form, averaging 30 cm in diameter and 25-30 cm in height
  • Linear-triangular, long-attenuate blades ranging from yellow-green to red
  • Tricolor inflorescence featuring cherry, canary, and indigo hues
  • Ability to produce numerous offsets, sometimes up to a dozen

The T. tricolor specimen in the image showcases its distinctive form—a symmetrical rosette of long, slender leaves radiating outward. The plant's base appears bulbous, with broader leaves transitioning to fine, needle-like tips. The color gradient from deep green at the base to lighter green at the tips gives the plant a vibrant, energetic appearance. While not in bloom, one can imagine the spectacular display when its tricolor inflorescence emerges.

Collector's note: This species is often confused with T. punctulata, but keen observers will note T. tricolor's stiffer leaves and more chartaceous texture. Its ability to withstand stronger light and longer periods of dryness makes it a hardy yet visually striking addition to any Tillandsia collection.

Care tips: T. tricolor thrives in bright light conditions but can adapt to indirect sun. It prefers high humidity and good air circulation. Water thoroughly by submerging or running water over the plant, allowing it to dry completely between waterings. Fertilize sparingly to promote growth and vibrant coloration.

Ideal for:

  • Tillandsia enthusiasts seeking colorful varieties
  • Indoor gardeners with bright, airy spaces
  • Botanical art installations
  • Xeriscaping projects

Display recommendation: Mount T. tricolor on a piece of driftwood or in a hanging glass globe to showcase its radial symmetry and allow for proper air circulation.

Bring the vivid hues of Central American forests into your space with Tillandsia tricolor —a living sculpture that combines hardy growth with a dazzling color palette, promising to be the centerpiece of any airplant collection.

Light scent, lathers surprisingly well
Like the reviews said, it lathers up nicely and rinses away very easily. I washed three large dogs (2 with short coats) and used up almost 1/2 the bar. Not sure if that's a great value or not. But at least I didn't have liquid shampoo dripping off their backs and running down the drain! While washing, the smell was nice, but it definitely didn't linger. Didn't cause any itchiness or irritation.

Will be using this from now on
Australian Shepherd is all fluffy! I always use a conditioner after any shampoo though. But, this soap lathered up great. We need to always look for more natural products especially for our pets.

Nothing EVER works, like advertised.
Scent: Alpine Meadow
I love this dog soap. It works awesome on my lab/ husky mix. No more dropping wet shampoo bottles, reaching for them, and my boy shaking water everywhere. Lol, seriously this works great! Smells great and took the stink out of his rubber collar. Nothing else has worked short of buying another. You won't be disappointed.

Love the ingredients!
I usually don’t write reviews, but absolutely love this bar soap for my dog. It has all natural ingredients which helped his skin beneath his thick German shepherd coat. It suds up well, but rinsed off fast. The benefits lasted days and made his coat, silky and shiny and healthy.
