Balsam fir are cold climate trees that can be grown outside almost anywhere in the U.S., though at least one or two months at or below freezing are essential for maximum heath. In most areas they can be grown outside year round, though some protection is good where winters are severe. We winter ours in open boxes (sides only, no tops or bottoms) covered by leaves and snow in an area protected from strong winds. Our success rate has been virtually 100% for hundreds of trees over the years.

Balsam are sun lovers (filtered or morning sun in hot climates). Be careful not to allow the roots to become bone dry while sitting in the hot sun. For more detailed care information for Fir and other bonsai, we suggest you visit Bonsai Empire.

Do not recommend
Edible, though barely. Definitely the worst tasting oysters I've tried of all the brands. Hopefully I don't get food poisoning as has been reported by other reviewers.

High quality product.
Warmth? I’m not sure what that means. I make a simple dish out of these, some milk, butter and salt and pepper—then I “warm” it up. They’re a little pricey but the quality and taste/flavor is great. I would definitely buy them again.

Good and can be used in many dishes.
These are pretty good mussels they have not been smoked or anything added to it but mussels, water and salt. Since they are packed like that, you can use them in a variety of dishes. I would buy them again but only when they're on sale because they are pricey.

Meaty and flavorful
I ate these straight from the tin at room temperature, sometimes sopping up the extra liquid with decent bread. I purchased these because I wanted to try an alternative to the King Oscar. I've tried a couple different kinds of mackerel over the years, and while the King Oscar has been the best I find their olive oil varieties to be a bit acrid. Not so with these Otter Kingdom fillets. Theses are actual fillets, so they are larger and meatier, and in my experience they have a looser grain than the mackerel I'm used to. They are high-quality, so I'm not detecting any bones and there's no formaldehyde-flavor, no imperfections in the cut. The oil is quite thin/watery and fairly small in volume. This isn't an issue for me, if anything I'd say it's welcome as it doesn't overpower the fish. These make a great compliment to my tinned fish rotation, which includes tuna, squid/octopus, sardines, cod liver, oysters, and sometimes sprats, salmon, and trout. The price is better than King Oscar, so I can have it more regularly without feeling like I'm being immoderate. Would recommend.
