Epipremnum aureum 'N'Joy'

Epipremnum aureum 'N'Joy' is a compact variegated pothos with small to medium leaves edged and patched in bright white and green. The leaves are broad, crisp, and neatly patterned, with bright white patches forming clear edges against the green tissue as the vine trails or climbs.

This cultivar has compact growth, bright green-and-white variegation, and broad leaves on a smaller vine. Short internodes keep the vine compact in indoor pot culture.

As a selection of Epipremnum aureum, it comes from a wet-tropical climbing species native to Mo‘orea in the Society Islands, where stems use aerial roots to attach to trees and other humid forest surfaces.

Crisp white-green foliage features

  • Compact pothos growth with shorter spacing between leaves.
  • Small broad leaves with crisp white and green variegation.
  • Trailing or climbing stems with aerial roots at each node.
  • Short internodes and compact stems.
  • Bright indirect light helps reduce stretch while protecting white leaf sections from scorch.

Compact stems and crisp leaf pattern

'N'Joy' develops as a node-forming aroid vine, but its internodes and leaves tend to stay compact. The white sectors can be broad and sharply defined. Bright but soft light protects the white leaf sections from scorch while reducing stretched growth.

The compact habit makes pruning simple. Cutting just above a node can encourage branching, and healthy stem pieces root readily. For a fuller pot, rooted cuttings can be replanted around the main plant once they have formed a stable root system.

Care for a smaller variegated vine

  • Light: Place in bright indirect light. Very harsh sun can scorch white leaf sections, while very low light slows growth and stretches the stems.
  • Water: Water when the upper 25–35% of the mix has dried. Smaller pots can dry unevenly, so check moisture below the surface before watering.
  • Substrate: Use an airy mix with bark, perlite, coco chips, or pumice. Compact vines still need oxygen around the roots.
  • Temperature: Keep at 18–27 °C. Cold wet substrate can damage roots before leaves show visible stress.
  • Humidity: Moderate humidity is usually enough. A steadier humidity level helps new leaves open with fewer dry edges.
  • Feeding: Feed lightly during active growth. Use a diluted fertiliser to avoid salt build-up on a slower, variegated root system.
  • Pruning and support: Let stems trail for a tidy cascade or pin them to a small support. Prune back long sections to keep the plant dense.

Compact-growth trouble signs

  • Brown marks on white areas: Check for direct sun, dry heat, salt build-up, or long dry spells between watering.
  • Yellowing near the crown: Inspect the root zone for waterlogged mix. A compact plant in a dense pot can stay wet longer than expected.
  • Loss of leaf size: Review light, root space, and feeding frequency. Small new leaves often point to limited energy or crowded roots.
  • Long gaps between leaves: Move gradually into brighter indirect light and prune stretched stems above healthy nodes.
  • Distorted new growth: Check the youngest leaves and stem tips for thrips, mites, or mealybugs.

Safety around variegated pothos foliage

Epipremnum aureum 'N'Joy' contains insoluble calcium oxalate crystals. The foliage can irritate the mouth and throat if chewed, so keep the plant away from pets and children and handle cut stems carefully.

Name and cultivar detail

Epipremnum comes from Greek roots meaning “upon” and “trunk,” referring to a climbing habit on trees and supports. The species epithet aureum means “golden.”

These are fantastic!!!
Size: 80 ea
All I can say is, "WOW." I've been fighting terrible dry mouth since going on cpap three months ago (my mask covers nose and mouth). My machine has a humidifier but that wasn't helping at all, even when turned up so high it was raining in my mask! The first nite I tried these lozenges it was like a gift from the angels! I used two, putting one on each side as per the instructions. It was a little weird sticking them to my molars at first; they didn't seem to want to stick but finally took hold. I also had to kind of adjust them so they didn't get knocked loose when I closed my jaws. But once they were in place they worked like a charm. I don't find the taste at all objectionable. It's kind of a very, very mild mint. I will *definitely* order these again. If you fight dry mouth, these are worth trying even though they're on the expensive side. They aren't as expensive as dental work if they end up protecting your teeth from cpap-induced cavities! UPDATE - my oral hygienist told me that CPAP users often begin to develop cavities and other dental problems from using the device. She said that the use of xilitol, which is in these lozenges, night help stave off such problems. Here I am, after years of CPAP use, and I have had no dental problems other than a lost filling! These lozenges are a lifesaver!

It works well but uncomfortable
Size: 80 ea
I take blood pressure pills that dry my mouth out. The inside of my lips feel burned from being so try overnight. It's uncomfortable. I discovered these tablets and thought I'd give them a shot. I am struggling with them. I don't have a large mouth and these have to sit inbetween your gums and your lip or cheek. They are bigger than I would like. Plus they kind of hurt my gums. You're supposed to put them in place, wait ten seconds so they stick and then there is no further instruction other than they work for several hours. Do we just leave them in place all night because the uncomfortability makes it so I can't sleep easy. I also wear a nightguard on my top teeth to keep me from grinding. I love Xylitol, I bought some to use in my coffee in the day time so that part is a great thing. I just can't get past how uncomfortable it is to have them fixated in your mouth all night. One last thing... you're supposed to put two in. I did that the first night and it was like... NOPE. I let them sit for 5 minutes like it says and then I just dissolved the rest in my mouth because no way could I leave them in place and sleep. The next night I just used one on my bottom gums. It was still uncomfortable. If they could make them smaller, it would be way easier. Other than that, the Xylitol does work and my mouth isn't nearly as try when I wake up in the morning.

Odd but surprisingly great
Size: 80 ea
These things are pretty weird. I had no idea what I was ordering when I ordered them. When they came, I didn't read the documentation and tried one like a normal breath mint. No no no. I set them aside for a few months -- until I read an article online in which dentists were interviewed and in which the dentists recommended products helpful for dental health. These things were mentioned in that list, so I dug them out and read the documentation. Oddly enough, each "melt" has an adhesive-like side that will keep it in place against your jaw (tucked out-of-the-way, between gum/teeth and cheek). And, it's gone -- there but forgotten. Lasts for hours (no kidding), slowly dissolving, keeping your mouth moist (like for speaking) and keeping your breath slightly "minty fresh" (I'm laughing at that expression.). And, apparently, there is a flouride-like dental benefit, but I haven't researched that. Anyway, I highly recommend these quite-strange "melts" (not mints but slightly minty).

Clear and powerful analysis.
Format: Paperback
The three books in Bowlby's trilogy on Attachment, Separation and Loss need to be read a whole. Using the studies and case histories of children being separated from their mothers and important others, in a wide range of circumstances from separations of only a few minutes, through separations of several weeks on up to prolonged and permanent separation due to divorce and death, Bowlby outlines a new way of understanding neurosis, psychosis and optimal, healthy functioning. Using the lens of a Darwinian analysis, and the case histories written up by psychoanalysts spanning decades, he compares and contrasts his new theory with that of previous psychological thought, especially the psychoanalytic tradition. I found his analysis penetrating and illuminating. It sets the stage and formulates the hypotheses for further research. Much of that research has now taken place and has borne out Bowlby's theories. Not all of it, of course. Because Bowlby's attachment theory became and continues to be such a foundational analysis for so much that has followed in its wake, from evolutionary psychology to child development to psychotherapy, it is a must read for anyone interested in these and related fields.
