Plant Information

From South America, Palo Santo, which means, “holy wood”, in Spanish, is renowned for its distinctive fragrance and profound healing powers. Dating back to the Inca Empire, many say that being smudged with Palo Santo feels invigorating and burn the wood intentionally to clean bad energy from a place or person’s energy field and to promote grounding and good fortune. Similar to the uses of White Sage in smudging practices, this wood is highly regarded in spiritual practices and shamanic ceremonies as a way to raise the vibration and aid in deeper meditation as well. There is an ancient adage which states, “If meditation is the yin, palo santo is the yang.” 

It is also known to repel insects and may possible help remedy coughs, bronchitis and other respiratory ailments. Gathered from the forest floor on Ecudor’s Pacific coast, as to not harm the trees, Palo Santo is acknowledged for encouraging relaxation, calming the nerves and quieting mental chatter. From the same botanical family as Frankincense and Myrrh, this unique woods aroma is sweet, fruity, with hints of mint, is shown to have, “a deeply transformative effect, including nurturing, activating and manifesting their creative and spiritual potential.”

Usages

Inhale the magic aroma of Palo Santo essential oil and feel the grounding affects. It is known to create peacefulness which may aid in calming anxiety, emotional trauma and depression.

Add a few drops to a diffuser to release negativity and naturally treat headaches, migraines, allergies, stress, anxiety, panic, nervousness, dizziness, and improve concentration. Also diffuse into the air of any room to clean any musty or unwanted smells and dispel unwanted energies.

Add to a carrier oil and massage body for joint pain, inflammation, arthritis, general aches and pains.

Safety

Always test for skin sensitivity prior to widespread use and use on the feet when possible. Excessive use of any oil can lead to skin sensitization. If skin irritation does occur, wash with water and soap and rinse thoroughly. Keep out of eyes, ears, or nose.
