A wedding day tradition
White calla lilies are associated with wedding bouquets because they are said to bring good luck on the big day. But floral designers use callas of all colours, in large part because a freshly cut bloom can last up to two weeks. (Tip: Add a drop of chlorine to their water to keep callas fresh longer.) You'll want to grow plenty in the cutting garden, although they can also beautify beds, borders and--when grown in containers--patios and decks. They bloom for weeks during mid to late summer.

Callas offer so much, require so little
Many flowers become brown when past their peak, but calla lilies turn green and continue to look good until the blooms fade. Long after the flowers are gone, the foliage remains attractive, although the plants are unappealing to foraging deer and rabbits.
