They prefer distilled or rain water, or tap water that has been left out overnight - chemicals in fresh tap water can harm their leaves and root systems.
These buds can accumulate dust on their leaves - no worries, just wipe it off! They'll also shed their lower leaves to encourage new growth above - feel free to remove dead leaves.
