OTHER: The Joshua Tree is a cactus & succulent tree native to the deserts of the Southwestern US. It is the largest of all the Yuccas, & they can live for up to 150 years! The Joshua Tree has spiky evergreen leaves that measure 8 - 14" long. The branches have a forking habit, & in the deserts where habitat is limited, birds drill holes in the trunks & branches to make nests. (This does not harm the plant.)

In early spring, huge 18 - 36" long clusters of flowers bloom in a stunning display. They are pollinated by the yucca moth, for whom it is a larval host, both totally reliant on one other. The flowers turn into interesting decorative seed pods that measure 2 1/2 - 4" each. They like sandy or rocky soil that is well drained. Think desert :)

Speaking of desert, we also have Desert Globemallow, Desert Marigold, Rubber Rabbitbrush, Stansbury Cliffrose, & many other great selections for you!

Wonderful and short introduction to plate tectonics for those with little background in Earth science or mathematics
Format: Paperback
Molnar does an excellent job explaining key elements of plate tectonics. His book is understandable even for those with little background in geology or geophysics. Molnar, an expert on mountain building, nicely explains how collisions of plates with continents atop cause mountain belts to form. He also questions the limitations of plate tectonics in explaining formation of such mountains. Understanding Molnar's very short book requires little mathematics. An ideal text for college science courses for non-science majors, and for those who want to understand the evolution of Earth's geological features and phenomena.

Easy to read
Format: Paperback
The book was an easy to read discussion of plate tectonics. The technical terms were easily understood and presented in an interest manner. Technically sound and entertaining is a winning combination for a science book! I wold recommend this book to anyone interested in the topic but is not a scientist in the field.

Very short and very good
Format: eTextbook
I read this book or one similar to it my senior year in high school 1970. It absolutely caught my attention as a way to explain why the continents had separated from Gondwanaland. I really liked revisiting the theory in light of the advances made since then
