Alternanthera dentata 'Little Ruby' is a low-maintenance, tropical plant with burgundy-purple leaves that's often used as a ground cover:
Appearance
This plant has oval-shaped leaves with a reddish to purple-burgundy color and reddish to purple stems. It produces small, white flowers in the spring.
Growth
It can grow up to 40 cm tall and 90 cm wide. It grows best in full sun to partial shade, but the foliage color is more intense in brighter light. It prefers moist, well-drained soil and can tolerate urban pollution.
Care
Pinch the tips to encourage bushier growth. Apply a thick layer of mulch around the root zone to conserve soil moisture.
Uses
It can be used as a ground cover, border plant, or in containers and hanging baskets. It's often used as a "filler" in container combinations.
Hardiness
It grows in USDA hardiness zones 9 through 11. It can return from its roots after mild winters, but it won't survive frost.
Propagation
