Smudging:

Smudging is traditionally used in rituals, ceremonies and for spiritual purification, house blessings, and energy cleansing. The smoke is believed by many to cleanse either a space or the body and aura, drive away negative energy and help reconnect with mother earth. Make sure the room where you are smudging is well ventilated with doors and windows open. This helps the negative energy to flow freely out while allowing the smoke to clear the air.

Carefully light one end using a small flame. Allow the end to burn for a few seconds, then quickly blow out the flame. Place the smoking stick on a fire-safe surface - e.g. metal or clay bowl, shell, crystal agate dish, etc. Keep a small dish or cup of water nearby for quick distinguishing.
