This is one of the sweetest varieties of winter squash that can be grown. Plants stay compact which is great for smaller gardens. Each plant produces an abundant supply of personal size oblong shaped squash. I love to slice them in half horizontally, add some butter and salt, then bake until soft. They should store for 3 months if kept in a dry and cool place.

Ideal Growing Conditions

Sun: Full sun

Water: Let the soil dry out a little bit in-between watering

Fertilizer: Consistent applications of fertilizer is important to promote lots of new, healthy, green growth to outpace the diseases and pests. Amend the soil with some organic granular fertilizer like Espoma Garden-Tone before direct sowing the seeds. Or sprinkle some into the planting hole if using transplants. Apply 1/4 cup of this fertilizer every 10-14 days to keep the nutrient supply consistent. I don't recommend using a synthetic fertilizer when fertilizing this frequently.

When & How To Sow Seeds: Direct sowing is preferred after your last spring frost date. In warmer climates can also direct sow at end of summer for a fall harvest. Sow 2-3 seeds in a mound, 1/2 inch deep, spaced 2FT apart, in rows spaced 3FT apart. Can also sow seeds indoors in 4 inch pots, 6-8 weeks before your last spring frost date to get an early start.

Germination: 5-10 days

Days To Maturity: 60 days after direct sowing the seed

How & When To Harvest: Harvest once the delicata squash is a tan color with distinct orange or dark green lines. The stem piece that attaches the squash to the main vine should be dried out and brown. Cut the squash off the vine with scissors, leaving a 2-3 inch piece of stem at the top (helps it store longer).

Common Diseases: Squash get a lot of leaf diseases caused by pathogens like molds, fungus spores, bacteria etc.... It is very common, so dont worry. Spray with 1 cup of hydrogen peroxide per gallon of water to clean and disinfect. Repeat every 5 days or so as a preventative, or until you notice the spread of the disease has stopped.

Common Pests: Critters like rabbits love to munch on newly germinated seedlings, so protection from small animals might be required. If you notice the leaves are chewed up and there are small black, green, or orange balls, worms/caterpillars are chewing up the plants. Spray with bacillus thuringiensis (BT) or spinosad to treat for the worms.

Superman: The Golden Age: Volume 1 Review
Format: Paperback
If you’re a fan of, or are interested in the Golden Age of comics, this book is for you. This is really the mainstream beginning of superhero comics. Before everything became mired in continuity, there were one-shot stories that were fun, and often dark. I definitely also recommend this for people who want to get into Superman as a character. For the price, the amount of content you get just can’t be beat.

Amazing first issue
Format: Kindle
I’ve been a huge fan of Spencer Ackerman since his reporting days, his incredible book “Reign of Terror” and his DC comics work on Waller vs Wildstorm. Now I’m so excited to see him writing for Marvel. I can’t wait to see all the political intrigue and social commentary he’s going to weave into this story!

Childhood fans of Michelinie Iron Man and Mantlo Hulk are creating this
Format: Kindle
So. It's adult, real-world based, and suspenseful. As a child I could afford only to buy a few comics a month with the little.money I earned. Mantlo Hulk and Michelinie/Layton Iron Man were two of the five or six comics I bought. So glad I took a chance on checking this out. Looks like I will be reading a current series this year. A lot happens in just this one issue, both mental sparring and physical bang-ups. Nice blend of food for thought and eye candy. I'm excited for the rest of the series.

Takin’ Care Of Business!
Format: Kindle
While I thoroughly enjoyed the previous run of Iron Man, a comic I stay at least in the know as best as I can, I have a feeling that this is going to be even better.

Getting There
Format: Kindle
The let’s take Stark’s company plot is getting old, but at least this time they’re showing that Tony Stark ‘s major asset is his intellect. Still leaning too much into the Stark is an alcoholic canon, which even the writers of that arc admit was a mistake that they hadn’t thought out fully; a mistake that sucked the fun out of Invincible Iron Man for decades until Robert Downey Jr portrayed the character on the big screen, and writers on the comic started to write Stark to resemble the character as originally written. I do not like the art design on Tony Stark on this run at all. The feeble Howard Hughes look doesn’t fit Tony Stark at all, but if the story gets better, I can live with it. The art will change with the next team anyway. Ackerman seems to at least like Tony Stark and he seems to understand him; two things that were definitely not the case with Cantwell. Issue one didn’t put me off, and I’m invested enough to continue and see where it goes. At this stage with many Marvel titles that’s saying a lot.
