Hippophae rhamnoides, commonly known as sea buckthorn, is a hardy, deciduous shrub native to Europe and Asia, often found in coastal areas, riverbanks, and sandy or rocky soils. It typically grows 2 to 6 meters tall, forming dense, thorny thickets with narrow, silvery-green leaves covered in fine hairs that give the plant a distinctive sheen. In spring, it produces small, yellowish green, dioecious flowers male and female on separate plants that are wind-pollinated. By late summer to autumn, female plants bear abundant clusters of bright orange berries that are rich in vitamin C, antioxidants, and oils valued for culinary uses. Sea buckthorn has an extensive root system that fixes nitrogen, improves soil fertility, and stabilizes eroding ground, making it useful for land reclamation and coastal protection. It thrives in full sun and well-drained, sandy or gravelly soils, tolerating drought, wind, and salt, and is well suited to both ornamental and ecological planting schemes. Zones 3-8

Germination

Hippophae rhamnoides seeds require a period of cold stratification to overcome dormancy and ensure successful germination. To prepare, the seeds should be mixed with a moist medium such as sand or peat and refrigerated at 1–5°C (34–41°F) for 6 to 8 weeks. After stratification, sow the seeds about 5 mm deep in a well-draining, sandy or loamy seed-starting mix and keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged. Germination usually occurs within 2 to 4 weeks at temperatures around 18–22°C (64–72°F). Adequate light and moderate humidity support healthy seedling development. Once the seedlings have produced several true leaves, they can be carefully transplanted into individual pots and later moved outdoors after the last frost. Hippophae rhamnoides prefers full sun and well-drained, nutrient-poor soils and, once established, becomes extremely hardy, drought tolerant, and capable of thriving in exposed, coastal, or degraded sites.

Nice and sturdy
Very easy to assemble and sturdy. Exactly what we were looking for. The only complaint is that the anchors that came with it did not work properly, we used our own.

A pain to put on the wall
4 stars only because to actually screw it into the wall you need either an angled screw driver, which we had to go buy, or a really really short screwdriver as the one that came with it is just a tad to long. Also the mollies that come with it our cheap and would not hold up on regular dry wall, which we found out, thank goodness, before we finished hanging it. As we were hanging it the top pulled right out of the wall. We had heavy duty ones at home already and used those. The shelf was a breeze to actually put together and once we got past the trouble of hanging it, is wonderful and looks great. So, 1. buy a better screwdriver, and 2. get heavy duty mollies.

Pretty and practical
Color: Rustic Brown, Size: 31.5 Inch
I love the rustic wood and iron look. It’s sturdy, spacious, and exactly what I needed in my basement apartment. I ended up buying another one to make it one long shelving unit. I highly recommend them!
