Hedgehog Snake Plant (Sansevieria boncellensis 'Hedgehog')

Hedgehog Snake Plant is a compact, low-maintenance houseplant that delivers a sculptural look without demanding constant care. Its tight, spiky rosette adds clean structure to shelves, desks, and small spaces where you want a modern accent that stays tidy. Like other snake plants, it tolerates missed waterings and adapts to a range of indoor light, which makes it an easy choice for busy routines. It brings durable greenery and strong form to everyday rooms with minimal effort.

Distinctive Features

This unusual snake plant forms a dense, hedgehog-like rosette of short, thick, cylindrical leaves that radiate outward like quills. Foliage is typically deep green with subtle silvery banding, giving it texture without looking busy. The compact habit stays naturally contained, making it ideal for small containers and tight groupings with other houseplants. Mature size is commonly about 6 to 12 inches tall and 6 to 12 inches wide.

Growing Conditions

  • Light: Bright indirect light is ideal, but it tolerates lower light and can handle some gentle direct sun when acclimated.
  • Soil: Use a fast-draining cactus or succulent mix in a pot with drainage to reduce rot risk.
  • Water: Allow soil to dry out completely between waterings, then water thoroughly and drain excess.
  • Temperature: Prefers typical indoor temperatures and should be protected from cold drafts and frost.
  • Mature Size: About 6 to 12 inches tall and 6 to 12 inches wide.
  • Pet Safety: Keep out of reach of pets, since snake plants are considered toxic if chewed.

Ideal Uses

  • Focal Point: Use as a focal point on a desk or shelf where the tight rosette can add a bold, sculptural accent in a small footprint.
  • Small Spaces: Place on windowsills, countertops, and nightstands where larger plants would feel crowded.
  • Modern Decor: Pair with clean pots and simple textures to reinforce a minimalist, contemporary look.
  • Office Plants: Keep at work for a durable plant that stays tidy with minimal attention.
  • Grouped Displays: Combine with broader-leaved houseplants to create contrast in shape and texture.

Low Maintenance Care

  • Watering: Water sparingly and never leave the pot sitting in water to prevent root and crown rot.
  • Light Management: For best growth and leaf pattern, keep in bright indirect light and rotate the pot occasionally.
  • Cleaning: Wipe leaves gently to remove dust and keep the rosette looking crisp.
  • Repotting: Repot every few years when crowded, using fresh, well-draining mix and a stable pot.
  • Feeding: Fertilize lightly in spring and summer, and avoid feeding during low-light winter months.

Why Choose Hedgehog Snake Plant?

  • Unique Form: Quill-like, cylindrical leaves create a compact rosette with strong visual impact.
  • Small Footprint: Stays naturally contained, making it easy to place in tight indoor spaces.
  • Low Water Needs: Thick leaves store moisture and tolerate missed waterings.
  • Light Flexibility: Performs well across a range of indoor light conditions.
  • Easy Care: Minimal grooming and straightforward watering make it friendly for beginners.

Hedgehog Snake Plant is a simple way to add durable greenery and sculptural style to everyday spaces. Give it sharp drainage, let it dry between waterings, and place it in steady indoor light for best results. With its compact rosette and resilient nature, it stays looking polished with very little effort.

Fun tug toy that holds up well
Size: Dog Rope Toy - M
We got this rope tug toy for our dog and it’s been a hit. He loves playing tug of war and will happily drag this around the house looking for someone to play with. The rope is thick and feels like real cotton, not that super cheap stiff stuff. It has some give to it but still feels sturdy. So far it has held up well to lots of chewing and tugging. Our dog isn’t a hardcore destroyer, but he definitely tests his toys, and this one is still in one piece. It’s also a nice size, not tiny, so it works well for medium and bigger dogs, but a smaller dog could still enjoy it. Overall, it’s a simple toy that does what you want it to do. Keeps the dog busy, gives them something safe to chew on, and holds up better than most rope toys we’ve tried.

Red flag!!!
Size: Dog Rope Toy - M
Within an hour of giving this toy to my dog, she chewed off the plastic handle and the plastic ball. The worst part is that they came off in very small pieces, some like crumbles. This could have been a serious problem if I had not been watching her and able to take it away.

Size: Dog Rope Toy - M
Good value and good material. Great size and thickness. My pit loved it until I drove over it with my riding lawn mower. I will be buying another soon.

Updated title: Not for a power chewer
Size: Dog Rope Toy - M
Update: I had to cut the ball off the same day I wrote this review. Two days later, the yellow rope was totally unraveled and I had to throw it away. She got maybe 3 days of play with this toy. Do not buy this toy if you have a larger dog that chews a lot. I will say our dog loved this toy the moment she started playing with it. But the toy doesn't last long with our superchewer. I was hoping to use it for some games of tug, and while we're at it get her teeth cleaned by the spikey red ball. The listing includes "large" dogs. My large dog (11 m/o Bernese puppy) had this toy broken within the first 10 minutes. The red pieces are a pretty lightweight plastic that she just broke apart completely, specifically the bone on the "handle". The ball is lasting a little longer, but she put a hole in it. We will probably need to cut the ball off as well because she'll chew it up and swallow it if we're not careful, and then she'll need (another) surgery. The positive is that she loves chewing on rope and the rope pieces seem pretty sturdy. We still play tug with the ropes, but this one I will probably just give to her as a chew toy. We found a more durable ball on a rope toy at Target for a little bit less.
