Chufas are excellent for turkeys, deer, and many other wildlife. Planted at 25-50 lbs. per acre, chufas can be mixed with other ingredients or planted on their own. Chufa seed is also known as tiger nut, Zulu nut, yellow nutgrass, ground almond, edible rush, and rush nut.

Chufas are a bunch grass with a peanut-like underground root nut that deer, turkeys, hogs, and wild hogs love. This plant produces underground "nuts/seeds" (tubers) on its root system, similar to peanuts. If you have ever seen hogs rooting for peanuts, they go after chufas in the same way. Plant in spring through summer—some reseeding (biennial growth) may occur, but for best results, replant each spring. Wildlife digs up the chufas once they mature. One chufa tuber can produce a plant that grows 15-75 tubers when mature. The tubers are high in protein and fat, which makes them especially nutritious for wild turkeys. Chufa can also make an excellent food source for other wildlife, including deer and ducks. Chufa plants grow in various soils but perform best in well-drained, sandy, or loamy soils. Plant 40 lbs. per acre; food plots: 2–3 pounds. per 1,000 sq. ft. Planting depth of 1-1/2". Plot sizes should be at least 1/4 acre for best results. Maturity takes 100-125 days. Plant spring through summer. (April-August, depending on location). Chufas mature in approximately 110-120 days after emergence.
