Sow seed 1/4 inch and watch for sprout in 30 to 60 days. Use soil that drains well, mixing soil with perlite for your starter pots is recommended.
ITEM DESCRIPTION
Sambucus Nigra is a genus of flowering plants in the family Adoxaceae.
Zones 3-8, well drained soil, prefers PH of 5.5 to 6.5 but will tolerate a wide range of variations including soil, temperature, texture, and acidity.
Elderberry usually grows 3-6 meters tall and prefers full sun to partial shade. This shrub can and will spread via suckers so it will eventually need more space
and will need trimmed if space is an issue.
A fast growing, hardy, flowering shrub. Growing from multiple stems, the shrub can be shaped into a pleasant bush shape, adding unique landscape features into most any setting. Pruning and fertilizing are not usually necessary but may be preferred, in order to enhance landscape or produce a better fruiting season.
In the late spring, the elderberry boldly shows off large clusters of small, white, showy flowers. By mid summer clusters of small blue-black, or red berries will canopy the shrub.
The fruits can be cooked and used in jellies, jams, cobblers, cakes and toppings ( think ice cream! ). Elderberry wine is another popular use, adding a distinct flavor to your favorite homemade beverage. Many culinary recipes are available online, but we always suggest your own creativity. You might be amazed with what you can come up with!
At $30.00+ a gallon, homemade stains are more popular than ever and elderberry will deliver a unique purple/burgundy color that can be mixed with other natural stains (Black walnut etc..) for custom blends.
For the real naturalists out there, try your shot at making perfumes and confectioneries using elderberry flowers!
Folklore and Native American culture add even more life to the use and history of this "now a days" overlooked shrub. It was used to make wooden instruments, to invoke the "music faeries" and other spirits. It was used for medicine, food, drinks, oils and dyes. It was used in ceremony and was considered by many to be a gift. A plant that deserves respect!
Are Elder Berries good for you? Absolutely! Although the plant itself is toxic, containing traces of cyanide in the branches, leaves, and twigs, the berries are perfectly safe (after being cooked) and boast a host of vitamins and minerals, including, but not limited to the following.
Iron, potassium, phosphorous, and copper, as well as vitamins, such as vitamin A, vitamin B, and vitamin C, proteins, and dietary fiber.

Great Toy For a Great Price
Color: Purple
My Aussie loves toys and plays with them as though she is a small child. She has a basket and will go to the basket and dig through it until she finds what she is looking for. Lately she has been using the bungee gecko as her toy of choice. She gets bored easily and will rip the stuffing out of most toys, the fact that this one has lasted 6 weeks or so is impressive with no rips, holes or missing limbs. Her favorite way to play is to come over to me and nudge me to play tug of war and we have broke many toys this way but so far we can play tug a war several minutes at a time and the gecko is still in one piece. For the price which is considerable less than some of her other toys I have already ordered a couple of replacements for the future. This is a great well built dog toy that has has a lot of give and can be stretched without ripping.

No longer as durable
Color: Purple
I have one of these that has made it through 2 dogs but now the bungee is stretched out. It's been such a well loved toy I recently got another one. They've changed the plush fabric. The old one was indestructible. This new one is much thinner and easily torn. I wish they would go back to the old plush fabric.

Great Toy!
Color: Orange
This has been a great toy for our 11 week old German Shepherd. She absolutely loves it. I can get out all of her toys and lay them out with the exception of her "Lizzy" and she will immediately go to her toy bin and get it herself. Needless to say it is her favorite toy. She has had it a week now and she plays with it a lot, chewing and squeaking. It's a pretty amazing toy to have held up this long already and to date shows no sign of wear or damage. Lizzy just keeps going and going.

This item came with plush missingand thread unraveling on one leg
Color: Blue
I bought this toy because my dog spent a week playing with the same toy from Zanies that belonged to a visiting dog. My dog was very gentle with this toy, which he loved, so we decided to find one for him. The toy that arrived had no Zanies label and missing plush on the bottom where the label should have been, plus other bare spots in the area that showed the white mesh beneath. It also had a long thread at the joint of a rear leg so I knotted it at the joint and clipped it to prevent my dog from pulling at it but it's apparent that the sewing is loose and wont last long. The color was also much lighter than the toy he'd been playing with that belonged to the guest dog but I figured it might just be from a different dye lot (it was not bought at Amazon but their local pet store.) I am not convinced this is a real Zanies toy. There were two labels in French and it said it was made in China. I am returning this toy and will get a replacement and see how it looks. If it seems like it will fall apart or is not the real thing I will return it immediately. If it has a label and is in good shape and sewn well at the seams I'll revise this review.

Fantastic Dog Toy!!!
Color: Purple
This is a great toy!!! My dog has lots of toys. But one of the problems is he has trouble getting the squeaker to squeak. He's an 18 lb terrier mix, and those squeakers are just elusive. Breaks my heart.
This one, though, the squeakers (there are two) are in small areas (head and tail), that are easy for him to get his whole mouth around and squeak. They also don't move, which also makes them easy to squeak.
So he's been squeaking up a storm since he got this!
Other plusses:
* The material is great (soft, furry material, that seems to be of good quality).
* The toy expands and contracts, which is fun.
* It's pleasant to look at.
All in all, I'd say this is one of the best dog toys I've ever bought for my dog. Highly recommended!
