Dischidia oiantha variegata

Small waxy oval to elliptic leaves with creamy white to pale yellow markings define Dischidia oiantha variegata. Fine stems hang neatly from a small pot, giving the plant a tidy pendant shape.

The plant has a fine root system, paired leaves and node-rooting stems. A close-fitting pot, open mix, steady warmth and even watering keep the fine roots aerated between soakings.

Cream-variegated oiantha foliage

  • Cream-variegated foliage on Philippine Dischidia oiantha
  • Waxy oval to elliptic leaves on fine trailing or twining stems
  • Small green leaves with creamy white to pale yellow markings
  • Compact size for small pots, hanging baskets and ventilated terrarium-style planting
  • Can be trimmed to keep the crown balanced as stems lengthen

Philippine epiphyte habit in pots

Dischidia oiantha is native to the Philippines and grows as a climbing epiphyte in wet tropical conditions. The variegated plant has paired fleshy leaves and roots that can form at the nodes.

In cultivation, it usually stays as a small trailing houseplant. It can also be trained over cork, bark, or a small trellis when the stems are positioned carefully and humidity remains steady.

Dischidia oiantha variegata care

  • Light: Use bright, softened light and turn the pot for even growth. Soften any direct sun before it reaches the pale leaf margins.
  • Watering: Run water through the root ball, drain fully, then wait until the upper mix has dried. Tiny pots can dry faster than they appear.
  • Substrate: Use fine bark, perlite, coco chips, and a little moisture-retentive fibre. Replace the mix when it becomes compacted.
  • Pot choice: Choose a close-fitting pot with drainage. A modest root ball dries more evenly between soakings.
  • Humidity: Fresh variegated growth expands more evenly with moderate to high humidity and moving air around the trailing mass.
  • Temperature: Hold temperatures around 18–28 °C. Warm roots keep cuttings and newly repotted plants growing after disturbance.
  • Feeding: Apply diluted fertiliser while stems are extending. Pale margins can mark after strong or frequent feeding.
  • Propagation: Use short stem sections with several nodes and healthy green tissue as well as pale variegation.

Oiantha variegation checks

  • Dry pale edges: Check hot light, irregular watering, fertiliser salts, and very dry air around the plant.
  • Yellow leaves near the base: Review pot size, drainage, and substrate age. Fine roots need air after watering.
  • Plain green sections: Trim back to variegated growth to keep the plant visually balanced.
  • Uneven trailing growth: Rotate the pot and prune the longest stems to encourage a fuller crown.

Variegated stem care

Small hanging pots or mounts show this variegated Dischidia clearly while keeping trailing stems away from pets and children. Freshly cut stems may release irritating sap, so rinse hands and tools after pruning or preparing cuttings.

Oiantha variegation and species

Dischidia oiantha is an accepted Philippine epiphyte in Apocynaceae. The variegated plant carries creamy white to pale yellow markings on small waxy leaves.

Dischidia oiantha variegata forms pale-edged trailing foliage in a compact epiphyte pot.

Awesome but a tiny bit small
Size: 2.5in Medium
They’re a little smaller than my chuck it stick, but still works well. They hold a glow-charge well, my dog loves them and the squeaker

Little glow that does not last
Size: 2.5in Medium, Size: 2.5in Medium
Total waste of money. These sat all day in Texas sun then were under a 60 watt lamp until I took them outside at night. There was barely any glow to the balls and the littl glow they had didn't last 10 minutes. I thought they were same size as a chuck it ball but they are slightly smaller. The 3x5 card in photo should sit evenly on top of all 3 balls. It doesn't because these are smaller. I have a 70 pound Malinois and these were just too small for me to feel comfortable using as I had concerns of them going down his throat. If you are looking for a fun night time toy you need to look elsewhere. I'd give zero stars if I could.

MY DOGS' NEW FAVORITE BALLS!
Size: 3.5in Large
They are the greatest! Awesome squeaking, lightweight, bouncy, durable, fast and bright light have made my dogs have hours of fun and exercise. I'm hoping more get back in stock since I've acquired another dog who loves them. They have all the fun properties of a favorite toy! UPDATE... After the second purchase of these balls, they have now replaced the old "Chuckit" balls as my dogs' choice but they fit perfectly in the XL Chuckit handheld launcher! I hold the ball in the launcher up next to my outdoor back light for a few seconds and hurl it away multiple times and they really run for them like there is no tomorrow. Day or night these balls stimulate my dogs' enthusiasm for running and it is a joy to play with them and watch how much fun they have.

Great value
Size: 2.5in Medium
Love these balls. They are a great price, good quality, durable, really bright glow, bounce higher than my chuck it brand but they are a slight bit smaller. This is why I knocked off one star because they are loose in my ball thrower and more difficult to throw. Other than that, great product!
