A dwarf clumping species, Monadenium ritchei nymbayense, goes by the common name ‘Euphorbia ritchiei.’ Belonging to the Euphorbiaceae family, these winter-dormant cacti are characterized by a clumping columnar shape, growing up to a height of 10 to 12 inches. The East Africa origin species has a thick fleshy rootstock with innumerable short knobby stems. It requires very little pampering with a characteristic fast growth rate. This succulent does not like to be in full sun exposure; rather prefers partial shade.

Growth Rate

Monadenium ritchei nymbayense plants have a fast growth rate.

Flowering

The plant bears bright hot pink flowers with a typical red margin during the blooming season, usually late summer or autumn.

Watering and Feeding

Euphorbia ritchiei cacti are self-sufficient plants once they start to grow. They require very little water – ensure the soil is never too wet for too long. Over-watering and under-watering, both, can kill the succulent.

Soil

Ensure that the soil is well-drained and is a typical succulent mix.

Hardiness

The hardiness zone of this cactus is between 11a and 11b, with a frost tolerance temperature of 7° C (44.6° F).

Light

Euphorbia ritchiei requires partial shade for healthy growth.

Propagation

This attractive plant can be propagated from seeds, but the best way is to propagate through cuttings.

Monadenium ritchei nymbayense is an adorable addition to your succulent garden. These cacti are undemanding and require very little attention to keep growing.

For kitties and ninjas lovers
Format: Hardcover
Excellent children's book with a collection of short stories and delightful panels that will entertain and take hold of anyone. The antics our kitten gets into results in tons of fun with some lessons to learn along the way. This would be a great read for any child wanting something beyond the typical picture book.

Very cute, lighthearted and funny
Format: Hardcover, Format: Hardcover
My daughter has loved this book. There are a few short stories which are funny and lighthearted. The cat who is a ninja, battles the defeats of cat problems. As a struggling reader, my daughter enjoyed this book and has read it without feeling overwhelmed. Recommend!

A good update for a fifty year geologist
Format: Hardcover
I wanted an update on plate tectonics as I was a geologist for 50 years and it was a theory back when I was in school particularly on mountain building I have been impressed so far I am about half way through the book and the book does a fine job of laying a solid foundation of physics and geochemistry that are the basics for the remainder of the book

An excellent introduction to plate tectonics
Format: Kindle
My rating is 4.5 stars. I dinged the book because I wanted more about geobiological evidence for and against plate tectonics, and because it didn't mention other global tectonics, such as single-lid tectonics. Read Robert Stern's article in the May 2025 issue of the GSA bulletin.
