Silver Dollar or Annual Honesty Plant (Lunaria annua) - Also known as Moonwort, this old heirloom was introduced to North America in the 16th century by English protestants. Lunaria thrive in both sun or partial shade. Clusters of mauve cross-shaped flowers are produced in its second year, followed by uniquely circular papery seed pods which resemble silver coins. This makes Lunaria very popular in dried displays. Lunaria is a self-seeding plant that grows to about 90cm (35") tall. It can be started early enough indoors where it can be coerced into behaving as an annual, flowering in the first year.

Growing Information: Seeds can be directly sown at any time from spring to fall but are easiest to plant in the spring. Sprinkle them where you’d like them to grow and cover with a light coating of soil and water well. They prefer a sunny location, but will grow well in semi-shade.
