In bright sunlight, the leaves flush a deep burgundy, creating rich contrast against the pale hairs. Each rosette can grow up to about nine inches wide, making it an excellent centerpiece in rock gardens or containers. Its color and texture remain attractive even through winter.                                                                                                                                              
  This variety grows mainly in spring and summer and produces offsets that form a neat cluster over time. A mature rosette may also send up a flower stalk during the growing season. Like other Sempervivum, it is very cold hardy and thrives outdoors in full sun with gritty, well-draining soil.
