I LOVE this plant - as a kid I was fascinated by the way the leaves moved when touched - and used always annoy my grandfather by touching his plants! Growing and keeping these plants is both easy, fun and educational for children (and big kids!) - in nature the plant folds its leaves inwards when touched or shaken to protect itself from animals trying to eat it. Like other nyctinastic plants, it also closes its leaves at night, reopening them in the morning.

Germination Guide

• Sow any time of year
• Soak the seeds for 24 hours in a cup of room temperature water.
• Sprinkle seeds onto a well draining compost in seed tray
• Compost should ideally be a 50/50 mix of regular compost and horticultural sand
• Cover seeds with a fine layer or sieved compost
• Keep moist but not wet  - best to water from the bottom by having seeds tray inside a waterproof container.
• Keep at 17-25 degrees during day and 10-15 degrees at night - so ideal place is on window sill over a radiator as long as heating goes off/down at night
• Thin seedlings and pot on as required.

TOP TIP! Don't use all your seeds in the same tray just in case rot sets in.
