'Grey Star' thrives in partial to full shade, making it ideal for shaded garden beds, underplanting, or indoor spaces with indirect light. It prefers warm, humid conditions and performs best in tropical and subtropical climates. Indoors, place it in a well-lit area with filtered light to maintain its vibrant colours and unique foliage patterns.

Growth


This moderately fast-growing, clumping plant reaches a mature height of 60–90 cm with a spread of about 60 cm. Its broad, silvery leaves and upright growth habit make it a beautiful choice for adding texture, height, and a touch of tropical elegance to shaded garden beds, borders, or as a striking houseplant.

Planting Guide


Ctenanthe 'Grey Star' grows best in well-drained, fertile soil enriched with organic matter. Plant in spring, spacing plants about 45 cm apart to allow for natural spread. For container planting, use a high-quality, moisture-retentive potting mix, and position the container in a shaded or indirect light area. Water thoroughly after planting, and apply a layer of mulch around the base to retain moisture.

Plant Care


Water regularly to keep the soil consistently moist but avoid waterlogging, as 'Grey Star' does not tolerate drought well. This plant appreciates high humidity, so misting the leaves frequently or placing a humidifier nearby is beneficial, especially indoors. Fertilise every 4–6 weeks during the growing season with a balanced, slow-release fertilizer to support lush foliage. Trim any yellowing or damaged leaves to maintain a fresh and vibrant appearance.

This is a very comprehensive and jam-packed book (for example, it has information like how to end toothbrushing struggles!). I like that it has so many practical ideas on how to help your toddler navigate life! It is a lot thicker than I expected but the pages are designed in a very eye-friendly way that keep it from feeling like a long read. I do feel like some of the advice is contradictory, which is why I knocked one star off. I also feel like she promotes more talking than is really helpful for toddlers (toddlers can't reason and so over-talking often just confuses them - Dr. Karp has written a lot on this in his book.) But overall it's a very good book with a lot of good principles for the average toddler! As a mom of a 20-month old, I highly recommend you read this book! You will be enlightened on your toddler's behavior and reassured that they are very normal!

This is a wonderful book that truly distills the new challenges and opportunities of parenting. Our daughter is only two, but we feel much better prepared as we all grow. The only part of the book that really isn’t helpful for us is chapter 45: Welcoming a New Baby. Nope! We were blessed when our daughter arrived and her feet will be the only ones that go pitter-patter. Do your whole family a favor and check this book out.
