Philodendron warszewiczii grows quite differently from most other Philodendron species. It is perfectly adapted to the seasonally very dry habitat it inhabits. It develops thick, water-storing stems . These creep along the ground and over stones like fat snakes or (less frequently) climb several meters up tree trunks .

During the dry season, it usually loses all its leaves to minimize water loss. Only the tips remain green , waiting for the onset of the rainy season. In the dry forests where it grows, most trees also shed their leaves during the prolonged drought. Only when the rainy season begins does it sprout again , growing under the protection of the newly sprouted trees.

This seasonal rhythm doesn't necessarily need to be imitated when caring for the plant.
