•  Adenia volkensii is a rare perennial plant producing more or less woody, annual stems up to 50cm long from a succulent, woody stem that can be 1 metre tall. The plant is harvested from the wild for local use as a medicine. It is sold in local markets for medicinal use and also harvested commercially from the wild as a source of materials for the pharmaceutical industry. It is also collected, grown and traded as an ornamental by enthusiasts.
  
   The sap of Adenias is poisonous, so do not ingest and be extra careful when pruning or handling them to avoid skin irritation or allergic reaction.
  
  Plants may be shipped bare root.
• The plant will also grow best with the leaves exposed to bright light, but the caudex shaded.
  
   Water thoroughly only when soil is dry to the touch and let drain completely, especially if you live in areas with high humidity.
