Philodendron gigas

Philodendron gigas is a Panamanian climbing Philodendron whose juvenile and mature leaves can look noticeably different. Young plants usually show smaller, deep green, velutinous leaves. Mature plants can produce much larger ovate to narrowly ovate blades on long petioles, with fresh leaves sometimes opening bronze or coppery before hardening darker.

This species grows as a wet-forest liana in Panama. Its appressed-climbing stems have short, thick internodes, semi-persistent cataphylls and velvety, moderately leathery leaf blades. Young plants stay smaller at first, then open up as the stem attaches and adult foliage develops.

Philodendron gigas juvenile and mature leaf traits

  • Juvenile leaves: Young plants usually carry smaller, dark green, velvety leaves before the adult shape develops.
  • Mature blades: Adult plants can develop larger ovate to narrowly ovate leaves with a matte upper surface.
  • Petioles: Long, near-round petioles carry the larger adult leaves away from the climbing stem.
  • Growth habit: An appressed-climbing stem benefits from a pole, plank or rough vertical surface.

How Philodendron gigas develops with age

Philodendron gigas can look restrained when young because the juvenile leaves have not yet reached their adult size or shape. As the plant matures, the blades lengthen, the velvety surface becomes more pronounced and the petioles create a more open climbing outline.

Young stems can be less firmly attached until aerial roots find a suitable surface. A moss pole, plank or rough support gives those roots a place to anchor and helps the plant carry its larger foliage more steadily.

Care for Philodendron gigas as a velvet liana

  • Support: Add a pole or board early so aerial roots can attach as the stem lengthens.
  • Light: Place in bright indirect light; too much direct sun can mark the velvety leaf surface.
  • Humidity: Higher humidity helps new velvet leaves expand with fewer stuck edges.
  • Watering: Water after the upper 25–30% of the mix has dried, keeping the root zone evenly moist but airy.
  • Substrate: Use bark, coco chips, perlite and a moisture-holding base for drainage with some even moisture.
  • Temperature: Keep warm, ideally 19–28 °C, and protect from cold windows in winter.
  • Feeding: Use a balanced fertiliser during active growth to support larger leaves and steady stem extension.
  • Potting: Use a pot with drainage and repot when roots have filled the container or the climbing support becomes unstable.
  • Propagation: Propagate from stem cuttings with at least one viable node; single leaves without a node will not produce a new plant.
  • Pruning: Cut above a node to shorten the vine or redirect growth, and remove damaged leaves without rubbing the velvety surface.
  • Semi-hydroponics: Can adapt to mineral substrates such as pon, pumice, lava or LECA if transitioned carefully and kept evenly moist but well aerated.
  • Growth rate: Usually moderate indoors, with larger leaves developing once the stem is warm, rooted and firmly supported.

Philodendron gigas velvet leaf issues

  • Stuck new leaves: Raise humidity and check that the plant is not drying out heavily between waterings.
  • Undersized adult leaves: Check whether the stem has firm support, enough light and active roots.
  • Leaf edge crisping: Look for dry air, irregular watering or heat stress near radiators.
  • Dull or marked leaf surface: Avoid rough wiping, check for pest activity and let dust lift gently with airflow or a soft brush.
  • Pests: Check petioles, leaf undersides and new growth for spider mites, thrips, mealybugs or scale.

Pet safety for Philodendron gigas

Philodendron gigas is toxic if ingested because the tissues contain insoluble calcium oxalate crystals. Keep it out of reach of pets, especially while new leaves and aerial roots are easy to bite.

Philodendron gigas species background and etymology

The genus name Philodendron comes from Greek roots meaning tree-loving, reflecting the tree-climbing habit common in the genus. Philodendron gigas was described by Thomas B. Croat and published in Annals of the Missouri Botanical Garden in 1997. The epithet gigas means giant. Mature plants can develop large leaves once the stem climbs and settles into adult growth.

Order Philodendron gigas for a Panamanian velvet climber that develops from compact juvenile leaves into large matte adult foliage.

A Convenient Fiber Supplement- Digestion, Regularity, Microbiome, Satiety, Hair, Skin, Nails
I’ve tried quite a few fiber supplements over the years, and this one stands out mostly because it combines digestive support with beauty-focused ingredients instead of being just another plain fiber gummy. The formula includes inulin and chicory root fiber, along with a fairly large probiotic blend containing multiple strains like Lactobacillus acidophilus, Lactobacillus plantarum, and Bacillus coagulans. That combination makes sense since prebiotic fiber and probiotics are often paired together to help support digestive balance and regularity. The added hair, skin, and nail ingredients are also interesting here. Biotin is commonly used for supporting stronger nails and healthier-looking hair, while collagen peptides and keratin are popular ingredients for skin elasticity and hair structure. Vitamin C helps support collagen production naturally, and Vitamin E adds antioxidant support. The apple cider vinegar and saw palmetto are smaller additions, but they round out the formula nicely for overall wellness support. One thing I appreciated is that these are gummies instead of powders or large capsules. Fiber supplements can sometimes feel like a chore, especially the gritty drink mixes, so having a chewable option made it easier to stay consistent. The blueberry flavor was actually pleasant and not overly artificial. Texture-wise, they were softer than expected and easy to chew. As far as results, I mainly noticed gradual digestive benefits after about a week or so of consistent use. Things felt more regular and less sluggish overall, especially on days where my diet wasn’t as balanced as it should have been. The fiber content is fairly substantial for gummies, so I’d definitely recommend drinking enough water with them because increasing fiber too quickly can sometimes cause bloating at first. Starting with a smaller serving may help if you’re not used to fiber supplements. I can’t say I noticed dramatic changes with hair, skin, or nails during the time I used them, but those ingredients usually take longer to show visible effects anyway. Even without obvious cosmetic changes, the combination of biotin, collagen, keratin, and antioxidants gives the formula a more well-rounded feel compared to standard digestive gummies. Another positive is the allergen-friendly formula. Being gluten-free and free from dairy, wheat, peanuts, and eggs makes it accessible for many people with dietary restrictions. The overall ingredient profile feels thoughtfully put together instead of overloaded with unnecessary fillers. Overall, I think this works best for someone looking for an easy daily fiber supplement that also offers some additional wellness support beyond digestion alone. The biggest benefit for me was the digestive regularity and convenience factor. The beauty-support ingredients are a nice bonus, even if they may require long-term consistent use before noticeable results appear. **As always, results can vary from person to person. Consulting a healthcare provider before starting any new supplement is advisable. Keep well (:

Fiber with slight beauty benefits
This supplement definitely falls into the “everything including the kitchen sink” category. You’ve got 10g fiber, 30 billion CFU probiotics, inulin, ACV, plus collagen, biotin, keratin, and vitamins C and E, all in one gummy. In real use, the most noticeable effect is on digestion first, beauty second. The fiber and probiotics actually do seem to help with regularity and a less bloated feeling over time which to me is where this product feels most legitimate. The skin, hair, and nail claims are much harder to directly feel, and honestly those effects (if any) are usually subtle and slow anyway. The main issue is exactly what you’d expect from a formula this stacked. It’s trying to do a lot at once, so nothing is really at a high enough dose to feel targeted. It ends up being more of a general wellness gummy with a strong fiber base, rather than a serious collagen or hair supplement.Taste and convenience are good, and it’s easy to stay consistent with. But like many multi-benefit gummies, there’s a bit of a tradeoff between ease and actual potency. The gummies themselves do taste amazing and I love the texture. They’re also sugar free which is very appreciated. Overall, I’d say this makes the most sense if you want a digestive support gummy with some bonus beauty ingredients layered in, not if you’re looking for strong, noticeable hair or skin changes.

Berry-Flavored Fiber Gummies
These fiber gummies are a quick and convenient way to introduce more fiber into your diet, along with some additional supplements including keratin, vitamins, and probiotics. As these are gummies instead of pills, they're easier to take than trying to swallow whole capsules. The taste is a pleasant berry flavor. While the product packaging prominently displays blueberries, and blueberry flavor is included as one of the ingredients, none of the marketing actually lists these as being blueberry flavored. The price of these gummies ($17.24 with coupon at the time of review) is on par with other fiber supplements, but these have the added benefit of including additional supplements. For awareness, the advertised 10 grams of fiber is only achieved by taking 3 gummies, instead of the lower recommended amount of 2 (which only offers ~7 grams of fiber). After taking these for about a month I did not notice any significant changes or improvements to my digestive health, but effects will vary from person to person. If you're looking for a fiber supplement with some additional vitamins included, these are a good choice.

I Noticed Improved Digestive Results
I really liked these Migcopat fiber gummies. I started taking them after a gap from my last supplement and noticed a change. I felt a positive impact on my digestive results. My bowel movements were easier to pass, cleaner, and more well-formed. The pectin-based gummies were a little above average size, but they were soft and easy to chew. They did not stick to my teeth at all. They were sugar-free. They came in a clear plastic bottle. The gummies had a tasty, natural blueberry flavor. A serving size was two or three gummies, giving twenty or thirty servings per container. The formula included biotin, keratin, zinc, apple cider vinegar, and other vitamins. I was very happy with the taste, the texture, and the results. The Supplement Facts print was small on the container - it was a little larger on the box.

Great blueberry aroma, easy to chew, sugar-free formula, long expiration date
The blueberry aroma when I open the jar is wonderful, and the taste is excellent. I really like that the texture breaks down pretty easily when chewed instead of sticking to my teeth. It is great to find a sugar-free option that packs in fiber, prebiotics, and probiotics, plus a few extras like biotin and collagen. I have been taking supplements like this for years, so I do not expect to feel any drastic changes, but everything is working well for me with no ill effects. It is also nice that the expiration date is clearly printed on both the box and the bottle, giving my batch about 23 months of shelf life. Pros ✅ Excellent blueberry taste and aroma. ✅ Soft texture breaks down easily without sticking to teeth. ✅ Sugar-free formula with a great 23-month expiration window. ✅ Includes hair and skin support ingredients like biotin and collagen. Neutrals – The 60-count bottle yields 20 to 30 servings depending on whether you take two or three gummies. Cons ❌ None observed, these are very pleasant to take.
