Hoya 'Australis' Houseplant – A Fragrant and Beautiful Climbing Wonder

Brighten Your Space with the Hoya 'Australis'

The Hoya 'Australis' is a true gem for any plant lover looking to add beauty and fragrance to their indoor collection. With its lush, waxy leaves and delicate clusters of star-shaped flowers, this versatile vine offers both visual appeal and a delightful scent. Known for its ease of care and ability to thrive in a range of environments, the Hoya 'Australis' is perfect for beginners and experienced plant enthusiasts alike.

Why You’ll Love the Hoya 'Australis':

  • Fragrant Flowers: When in bloom, the Hoya 'Australis' produces sweet, honey-scented flowers that fill your home with a light, refreshing fragrance.
  • Low-Maintenance Climber: Easy to care for, this hardy plant can thrive with minimal attention. It’s perfect for busy plant owners or beginners.
  • Beautiful, Glossy Foliage: Its oval, dark green leaves have a waxy sheen, adding a glossy, sophisticated look to any space.
  • Versatile Display: The Hoya 'Australis' is ideal for hanging baskets, climbing trellises, or cascading from shelves. Its trailing vines can grow up to 10 feet, allowing for creative placement.
  • Air-Purifying: Like many other Hoyas, it helps improve air quality by removing toxins, making it an excellent choice for both beauty and wellness.

Plant Details:

  • Botanical Name: Hoya australis
  • Common Names: Australian Wax Flower, Hoya 'Australis'
  • Mature Height: Vines can grow up to 10 feet (with support)
  • Mature Width: 1-2 feet
  • Sun Exposure: Bright, indirect light (ideal for maintaining healthy growth and blooms)
  • Watering: Allow the top 1-2 inches of soil to dry between waterings. Be careful not to overwater, as Hoyas are susceptible to root rot.
  • Humidity: Prefers moderate humidity but can adapt to average indoor levels. Increase humidity in dry environments by misting or using a humidifier.
  • Temperature: Thrives in warm environments (60-85°F or 16-29°C). Avoid placing in drafty or cold areas.

Care Tips for the Best Results:

  • Light: For optimal growth and flowering, place your Hoya 'Australis' in a bright, indirect light spot. While it can tolerate lower light, too little will affect its flowering and overall health.
  • Watering: Water your Hoya thoroughly but allow the soil to dry out completely between waterings. Overwatering is a common mistake, so ensure the pot has good drainage.
  • Feeding: Feed with a balanced, water-soluble fertilizer during the growing season (spring and summer) to encourage blooming. Reduce feeding in fall and winter when growth slows.
  • Pruning: Prune occasionally to control the size and encourage branching, which will result in more blooms. Always trim just above a leaf node for best results.
  • Blooming: Once established, the Hoya 'Australis' will reward you with stunning clusters of star-shaped flowers that appear in spring and summer. The blooms are typically white or cream with pink or purple centers and emit a sweet, honey-like fragrance.

Perfect for Any Space

The Hoya 'Australis' is an excellent choice for homes, offices, and even low-light environments. Its trailing vines are perfect for hanging baskets, or you can let it climb a trellis for an elegant vertical display. Whether you’re creating an indoor jungle or simply want to add a touch of beauty to your space, the Hoya 'Australis' will make an impact.

Great practice for the summer
Format: Paperback, Format: Paperback
I bought this book to use with my son the summer between kindergarten and 1st grade. I love that it has a variety of topics it covers including spelling, sight words, reading comprehension, and a mix of math skills. My son loves the colorful pages and variety of activities. He also loves that there are stickers included for when he completes each page. Would absolutely recommend this, especially for reluctant/high energy learners.

The perfect summer romance in a beautiful setting!
Format: Kindle
I give this book 4.75 stars rounded up to five for the purposes of this review. I really liked this story and flew through! Anyone looking for a great summer romance can find it here. This was my first Carley Fortune book, but I’d like to read more (and plan to read the sequel to this one very soon). It was so fun to experience Percy and Sam’s relationship as it developed from close friends at the age of thirteen to something much more as they got older. Their relationship was so deep and respectful. They knew everything about each other and shared so many wonderful experiences together. It felt like a very natural evolution from friendship to romance (although I did want to smack Sam a couple times, but he was young, so I’ll give him a pass). And the setting of Barry’s Bay was a beautiful, relaxing place. I wish I could live in a cabin on that lake! There were some great side characters in this book too. Sue was such a kind, loving person. Charlie was sometimes difficult to like, but he really wasn’t a bad person. Delilah definitely annoyed me at times, but she turned out to be such a good friend to Percy. I wish we’d gotten a little bit more of Chantal, because she also seemed like an amazing friend. I don’t always like a miscommunication trope in terms of breakups in romances, but this one actually made sense, because Percy and Sam were so young and trying to figure themselves out, as well as their romantic relationship. So, that part of it didn’t turn me off the overall story. I loved the ending (it made me cry), although I wish Sue’s storyline could have been different. In my opinion, this was the perfect summer romance, so if that’s what you’re looking for, I would definitely encourage you to read it!
