The widest maple leaves in the world. The most spectacular fall color of any maple.

Acer japonicum, the Full Moon Maple, is the larger, more boldly leaved relative of the Japanese Maple, producing round, deeply lobed leaves with 9 to 11 lobes that can reach 6 inches across and turn the most vivid shades of scarlet, crimson, and orange in fall of any maple species in cultivation. The Full Moon Maple is less commonly grown than its relative Acer palmatum but is considered by serious maple collectors to produce superior fall color and a more substantial, architectural presence in the garden. The 'Oisami' selection develops into an upright, spreading small tree with leaves that unfurl in spring tinged with red before settling into fresh green for summer. Seed-grown Full Moon Maples express the natural genetic variation of the species, producing trees with individual character that no grafted nursery selection can match. If you are looking to buy Full Moon Maple seeds or grow Japanese Full Moon Maple from seed, this is the maple that redefines what fall color means.

  • The largest-leaved native maple of Japan, with round, 9 to 11-lobed leaves reaching 6 inches across
  • Among the most vivid fall color displays of any maple in cultivation, deep scarlet to crimson
  • Develops a more substantial, architectural form than Acer palmatum, suited to larger garden spaces
  • Seed-grown specimens produce individual genetic variation in leaf form, color intensity, and growth habit
  • Prized by Japanese maple collectors worldwide as a more dramatic alternative to the more common species

Things you probably did not know about the Full Moon Maple

It is named for the shape of its leaves. The Japanese name for Acer japonicum is Hauchiwa kaede, meaning round fan maple, referring to the nearly circular leaf outline that resembles a full moon. The leaf is so distinctive in its rounded, fan-like form that it has been used as a design motif in Japanese textile and ceramic art for centuries.

The fall color transition happens faster than almost any other maple. Full Moon Maple fall color often develops in a matter of days rather than the gradual progression seen in Sugar Maple or Red Maple. A tree that is entirely green on a Monday morning can be fully crimson by Thursday after the first cold night of autumn. The speed and intensity of the color change makes it one of the most dramatic events in any autumn garden.

It is significantly rarer in cultivation than Acer palmatum. While hundreds of Acer palmatum cultivars fill nursery catalogs, Acer japonicum remains much less commonly grown in western horticulture. The combination of superior fall color and relative scarcity makes it genuinely sought after by collectors and serious Japanese maple enthusiasts. Growing from seed is often the most accessible way to acquire it.

The leaves are edible in Japan. Young Full Moon Maple leaves are battered and deep-fried in a Japanese confection called momiji tempura, a traditional autumn treat sold at temples and festivals in Osaka and throughout the Kansai region. The leaves are sometimes salt-preserved for up to a year before frying. The resulting tempura is delicate, crisp, and mildly sweet, one of the most unusual edible leaf preparations in any culinary tradition.

Works well, but it doesn't come with drywall anchors
Bought it to wall mount my wifi router. The whole thing is very small, but the straps are very long, so it can support many devices. The straps also get reasonably tight. Installation is easy, it's nice that it comes with a level. Annoying that it only comes with six screws, and no drywall anchors. So you either have those, have to go get them, or screw it to a stud (which you probably should do depending on how he heavy the object you want to mount is).

Clean, sturdy way to mount a cable box/router (easy install)
Used this TotalMount to get my cable box/router off the shelf and tidy up the setup behind the TV. Install was straightforward (screws/anchors included), and the mount feels solid once it’s on the wall. The adjustable fit is the best part—it held my device snug without bending or wobbling, and there’s still enough airflow so it doesn’t feel “choked” in place. It also helps a lot with cable management since everything stays in one spot instead of hanging or sliding around. Tip: measure your device first and lightly tighten, then do the final snug once it’s centered. Overall, great value if you want a cleaner, more organized setup.

Used it to hang two routers on the wall
This product was surprisingly good. For my purposes it was better than it needed to be. The drywall screws provided were very easy to use. I attached one side of the mount to a stud but I think for most purposes the drywall screws would have been adequate. I was surprised that they had channels in the plastic for the straps. This certainly made the molds for this product more expensive to make, but it made the straps easier to thread through the mount than if the had just made it so the straps went between the device and the wall. The product had a level. For my purposes it would have been fine without that but it did make it a little easier to install. I mounted two routers (one was our network router and the other was a router that provided a land line telephone) side by side in this mount. I separated them a bit so as to allow each to cool. It was a nice improvement over having the routers flopping around on a desk and periodically falling on the floor. I gave it five stars overall. It was nicely built, I couldn't see what they could have done better, the price seemed reasonable and it got here in a timely way.

Easy install and perfect mount for PS3 Slim
I struggled to find a mount for my PS3 slim and as I already have TotalMount's PS4 Slim mount, I had the utmost trust in this one. Installation is already easy and made easier with the built-in level. Simply hold level and screw/drill in screws. But honestly, one of the best things about this mount are the included screws. Their thick threading ensures that the mount being ripped off or loosened is almost impossible. As for the quality of the mount holding my PS3 Slim, which isn't exactly light (7 lbs), no complaints. It was pain to set up within the straps as I needed a second set of hands, but it is very secure and I trust it's not going anywhere. But as a tip for anyone installing heavier objects, make sure the adjuster buckles are near the top. Because of the PS3's weight, it unavoidably weighed the straps down so I found that tightening the console near the top secures it in places without gravity playing too much of a role. But I recommend do trying to avoid using this mount for heavier things in general.

Excellent For the Price
The mount is much smaller than I had originally thought but that does not really pose a problem as the straps are excessively long allowing for large items. It is very straight forward and easy to install. The plastic buckle on the provided straps are less than impressive as they do not tighten as much as I would like. That having said that I'm not in fear of it falling because each is secure and snug against the console. If your item is larger than the mount than it will be able to move length-wise as the straps are not connected to the mount but rather you push them through the provided slots. On my next install, I'm going to try using a wedge or clamp that will keep the straps secured to the mount to mitigate this. The install hardware consist of 6 bear-claw style drywall screws. These are have very poor quality control as 2 of the screws had 1/4in metal shavings attached to them one of which sliced open my finger during install. I was using a simple screwdriver and was being moderately careful as to not damage the plastic. I recommend using anchors that you are more familiar with. Also I will be using washers next time as the holes in the plastic have a small lip in them that the screw is supposed to snug up to and I don't feel as comfortable with it after actually mounting the console. I did a fair amount of tugging on the straps to try and tighten them and was worried I may pull the mount loose. Over all, I very much like this item. It is very versatile and you cannot beat the price. i will defiantly be buying this again and using my own hardware to mount so that I feel more secure putting expensive items 6 ft off the ground.
