Alocasia 'Tiny Dancers'

Alocasia 'Tiny Dancers' is a miniature hybrid Alocasia with narrow petioles and teardrop-shaped green leaves. Each leaf sits above the compact base on a slim stem, giving the plant a light upright shape.

Its parentage is Alocasia brisbanensis × Alocasia odora, and the hybrid was bred by LariAnn Garner. It stays compact indoors and produces many small leaves from a tight base.

Small leaves on narrow petioles

  • Foliage: Green teardrop leaves with a smooth surface.
  • Habit: Dense miniature plant with many upright petioles.
  • Scale: Compact Alocasia for shelves, plant cabinets and small bright spots.
  • Leaf shape: Small leaves rise above the base on long, narrow petioles.
  • Flowering: Grown for foliage; flowering is uncommon indoors.

Small-pot care

This Alocasia has fine roots and slim petioles, so the pot should stay lightly moist and warm. Small pots dry quickly in bright, warm conditions.

  • Light: Bright filtered light keeps the plant compact; low light makes the petioles thinner and longer.
  • Watering: Water when the upper mix starts to dry. Check small pots more often during warm growth.
  • Substrate: Use a fine but airy aroid mix with coco fibre, small bark, perlite and pumice for moisture and airflow around the small roots.
  • Pot size: Keep the pot proportionate to the root ball so the lower mix dries at a similar pace to the top.
  • Temperature: Keep it warm enough for regular new leaves and active small roots.
  • Humidity: A moderately humid spot reduces stuck tips and dry edges on young leaves.
  • Feeding: Use mild feed during active growth; strong fertiliser can burn fine roots and brown the leaf tips.
  • Handling: Lift the pot from below and avoid brushing fresh leaves, as the fine stems bend easily.

Drooping, pale petioles and soft base

  • Sudden droop: Check pot dryness first, then root warmth and moisture lower in the pot.
  • Thin pale petioles: Low light causes thin pale petioles; increase light gradually so new stems grow sturdier.
  • Soft base: Refresh old saturated mix and check the fine roots.
  • Pests: Mites can cause pale speckling and small, distorted new leaves before webbing is visible.

Safe placement for pets and children

The leaves and stems can irritate the mouth and stomach if ingested. Place Alocasia 'Tiny Dancers' out of reach of pets and children.

Tiny Dancers name

The cultivar name fits the many small leaves held above the compact base on narrow petioles.

Durable for extreme chewers
Size: For Large & Medium dogs, Color: beige
My dog loves this and he is an extreme chewer and after a week this thing is still holding up fine. My only complaint is that when I opened it, it smelled HORRIBLE and it almost became an outside toy. It’s seriously so gross...

Not for very aggressive chewers
Size: For Large & Medium dogs, Color: beige
My dogs are aggressive chasers and although strong they are whittling them away pretty quickly.

Too small for a lab retriever
Size: For Large & Medium dogs, Color: beige
If you have a large dog, I would not advise buying this item. It is very small. I was concerned about choking. My dog loved chewing on it and it is good quality, but I had to monitor constantly and tossed it the 2nd day due to choking fears. Great, if you have a smaller dog, but not good for lab retriever size!

buyer beware. i don't know what this joke of a "dog toy" is but it's not what is pictured. no chance i'm giving this to my dog since i actually care about his well being. this product says that it's made in china, "patent pending" and that's its "safely tested in USA". also there's a weird stain on the inside of the packaging. no thank you, and i'm about ready to see the blood of whoever is behind potentially putting a dangerous toy in my dogs mouth.
