It has an 2020 EWG (ewg.org) safety rating of 3 (where a 1 is safest but often difficult to find and often too expensive and a 10 is the worst safety rating). We love that is not too thin or thick, so it goes on easily, and it works into your skin without leaving you white or greasy, has a neutral pleasant smell, stays on well in the water (up to 80 minutes), and is accessible (has a decent price around $1 per ounce and is easy to find in many local grocery and drug stores). It is the one my kids grab out of the pile every time! And the only reason there is a pile is that I am trying to find a sunscreen rated 1 or 2 by EWG that has all of the properties of Coppertone SPORT 30. The search continues....

                                  This sunscreen is well-known, but let me tell you about the manufacturer….

                                  Have been using this sunscreen for most of my life—it’s been around forever. Product consistency has always been 100 percent perfect. But a few weeks ago I purchased the sunscreen I’m reviewing here, and when I went to use it, rather than finding a well-blended white lotion, the lotion had separated into white clumps and a watery liquid. The product was clearly defective even though it was well within its use-by date. I reached out to Coppertone via email and asked for a product replacement. They got back to me that same afternoon with a letter of apology, sent me coupons for a few free bottles of this sunscreen, included some additional discount coupons for Coppertone products, and also sent a prepaid label and pouch to return the defective product since they wanted to make sure that they were able to solve whatever had led to that product being released in that condition. All in all, I was impressed. Coppertone is clearly a firm with a customer-centric culture, and a commitment to product quality. I thought I’d share this since it isn’t everyday that customers gets an inside look into the culture and values of an otherwise very well-known, market leading firm like Coppertone.
