A Floor-Length Statement Gown Built for Extraordinary Occasions

There are dresses that turn heads, and then there is this one. The One-Shoulder Cut-Out Maxi Gown with Gold Medallion Elegant Dress is a floor-length statement piece that combines Grecian-inspired draping with contemporary cut-out construction in a way that feels genuinely couture. The single wide shoulder strap creates an asymmetric silhouette that draws the eye immediately — one shoulder fully covered, the other completely bare, creating a strong, architectural contrast that reads as both modern and timeless. At the bust, a sweetheart-shaped panel is anchored by a large gold medallion hardware detail that catches light and adds a luxurious, editorial finish to the otherwise clean white fabric. This is the best white formal gown for galas, black-tie events, resort evenings, and any occasion where arriving in something extraordinary is the only option.

The midriff cut-out is the detail that makes this elegant dress genuinely daring. A clean, curved opening at the waist reveals a strip of skin between the bust panel and the draped skirt below, creating a visual break in the silhouette that adds dimension and sensuality without being overtly revealing. A second gold medallion hardware piece anchors the cut-out at the hip, mirroring the bust detail and creating a cohesive, intentional design language throughout the gown. The floor-length skirt falls in soft, fluid drapes from the hip, with a side slit that opens as you walk and adds movement and ease to the otherwise fitted silhouette.

White is the defining color of this gown — a clean, bright white that photographs with exceptional clarity under both natural and artificial event lighting. The fabric has a smooth, matte finish that drapes beautifully and holds the asymmetric silhouette without stiffness. The combination of white fabric and gold medallion hardware creates a color palette that feels simultaneously bridal, resort-luxe, and fashion-forward — a rare combination that makes this one-shoulder cut-out maxi gown appropriate for a wider range of occasions than most formal dresses.

Features

  • Asymmetric one-shoulder design with wide single strap
  • Sweetheart bust panel with large gold medallion hardware at centre
  • Midriff cut-out with second gold medallion hardware at the hip
  • Floor-length draped skirt with side slit for ease of movement
  • Clean bright white with smooth matte fabric finish
  • Grecian-inspired draping through the skirt and hip
  • Sizes S, M, and XL — Asian sizing, size up for best fit
  • Ideal for galas, black-tie events, resort evenings, and white-themed occasions

Styling Suggestions

Let the gold medallion hardware do the accessory work — keep jewelry minimal with small gold stud earrings or a delicate gold chain bracelet. Pair with strappy gold heeled sandals and a small gold or white clutch for a complete formal look. A sleek low bun or slicked-back updo keeps the focus on the asymmetric shoulder line and the cut-out detail. The white colorway also works beautifully with a deep tan, making this one of the most popular choices for resort galas, Mediterranean-style events, and warm-weather formal occasions.

Fabric and Fit

Made from a smooth, matte polyester with a fluid drape, this gown holds its asymmetric silhouette through a full evening of wear. The fabric is lightweight enough for warm indoor venues and outdoor evening events. Please note this gown follows Asian sizing — we recommend sizing up one size from your usual size for the most comfortable fit. Note: only S, M, and XL are available — size L is not offered in this style.

Size Bust (cm) Waist (cm) Hips (cm) Length (cm)
S 82–86 62–66 88–92 148
M 86–90 66–70 92–96 150
XL 94–98 74–78 100–104 154

Is the gold medallion hardware removable?

The gold medallion pieces are integrated into the construction of the dress at the bust and hip — they are not designed to be removed and are a key structural and decorative element of the gown.

Is this gown suitable for a beach wedding or white-themed gala?

Yes — the clean white colorway, gold hardware, and Grecian-inspired draping make this one of the strongest choices for white-themed galas, beach weddings, and resort formal events where a floor-length white gown is appropriate.

Does the side slit affect the modesty of the gown?

The side slit opens from approximately mid-thigh and provides ease of movement without being excessively high — it is designed to complement the draped skirt rather than dramatically expose the leg.

The hype it did not live up to
Format: Paperback
I guess I expected more. I found it kind of boring and un inspiring. I enjoyed the food twist and even the characters, but it was very underwhelming. and I'm sorry about this review, because I really really wanted to love it.

A thoroughly-researched, thoughtful, and nuanced work about the 1692 Salem withcraft panic.
Format: Paperback
This graphic novel recounts the 1692 Salem (Massachusetts) witchcraft panic that engulfed Salem, Salem Village (now Danvers), and adjacent communities. About two dozen men and women were convicted and hanged, one was pressed to death (tortured) to try to force him to acknowledge the Court’s authority. That man was Giles Corey, aged 80. The book focuses on him, but it covers others among the accused and executed as well as on the judges, politicians, and other involved. (No so much on the accusers and their motives.). The narrative plays out chronologically with interstitial vignettes in which 19th Century literary figures Nathaniel Hawthorne and Henry Wadsworth Longfellow wander around Salem during the 1800s discussing the trials and their legacy. (Hawthorne lived in Salem for a time and was a descendant or the Court of Oyer and Terminer Judge Hathorne.). The work concludes with a chapter, More Wonders of the Invisible World, that follows how Salem developed economically up to the present day in which witchcraft-related Halloween tourism turns Salem town into arguably the least attractive “tourist attraction” on Cape Ann. (Do not skip this chapter, it is engrossing.) An extensive series of endnotes provide scholarly references and background information. The artwork veers back and forth between caricatures (the 17th century events) and realism (19th century and onwards). In both cases the line art is exquisite. The text includes quotes from transcripts of the trials and other contemporary documents as well as fictional dialog. Wickey worked on this book for more than a decade, and it shows in his thorough scholarship. This is, in all seriousness, Pulitzer/Eisner-level work. Wickey was born in Beverly and resides on Cape Ann. Most of us born and raised on the “North Shore” learn about the Salem witchcraft panic in high school -often as a cautionary tale about politics, spectral evidence, and what we would today call “lawfare.” I thought I knew a fair amount about the 1692 panic, but I learned something new with nearly every other page. I was especially glad to see Wickey cover now-debunked ergot-poisoning theory and that he dismissed the vile slander that some among the convicted and executed were actually witches. There’s nothing really “missing” from the book, though one wishes one could learn more about the fates of the accusers other than Ann Putnam. That their motives appear to have been “sport” is bone-chilling fully three centuries later. Read her "apology" years later and try not to think, "psychopath." At 500 plus pages, it's too long to read at one setting, but it is a pleasure to read at shorter intervals.

Masterpiece
Format: Kindle
It has been said that any work of literature should be gauged upon how much the work makes the reader think. Ben Wickey has certainly achieved this - in spades - as one of the “civilised” world’s most frightening episodes is revisited with respect and thoughtfulness on the human condition.
