Queen of Nile - Red Gothic Satin Lace Evening Dress

Red is not a subtle colour. The Queen of Nile Gothic Satin Lace Dress knows this, and commits entirely. Floor-length, deep crimson satin, overlaid with intricate black lace - this is a gothic evening dress designed for occasions that deserve a real entrance. Inspired by Hanfu silhouettes adapted for dark alternative aesthetics, it sits at the intersection of gothic fashion and theatrical elegance.

The contrast works because the fabrics do. Satin catches light with a cold, liquid quality. Lace softens and complicates that surface - adds shadow, adds detail, adds intention. The result is a gothic formal dress that feels genuinely considered rather than assembled.

Details That Matter

  • Deep crimson satin base - rich colour that photographs dramatically and holds its depth under artificial light
  • Black lace overlay - full-length lace over satin creates depth and gothic texture
  • Hanfu-inspired silhouette - flowing cross-front construction with wide sleeves
  • Floor-length cut - full dramatic length with a slight sweep
  • Fitted bodice - structured through the chest and waist before releasing into the full skirt

Styling

Maximalist gothic formal: Pair with a gothic headpiece, dark jewellery, and heeled boots hidden beneath the hem. Let the dress be the entire outfit.

Dark romantic: Add a black velvet choker and minimal accessories - the red and black colour combination is complete in itself.

Theatrical: Layer a gothic cape or structured coat over the top for entrance, remove to reveal the dress. Classic theatrical technique, genuinely effective.

When to Wear It

Gothic weddings - as a guest or as a dark alternative bride. Formal alternative events and gothic balls. Dark theatrical performances. High-concept gothic fashion photography. Occasions where the dress code is 'formal' and you've decided to interpret that on your own terms.

See our full gothic dress collection for alternative silhouettes and colourways. Size guidance at our women's gothic size chart.

Care

Hand wash cold or dry clean preferred. If machine washing, use a cold delicate cycle inside a mesh bag. Hang to dry - never tumble dry. The satin base can be ironed on low heat from the reverse side. Handle the lace overlay with care when wet.

Great For Dry Hair
I've never tried Batana Oil before, so I had no idea what to expect. It's a great oil for my hair. I love that it is all-natural oil and is more like a paste. It spreads easily on my hair. I love that I can put a tiny bit on my finger and rub it directly into my dry scalp. The oil has an interesting but pleasant smell. It's hard to describe. It reminds me a bit of a cross between coffee and cacao, but more nutty and mild. I like it. It's not too strong. The directions say to apply and leave in for 20 minutes, then wash out with a sulfate-free shampoo. I like to leave it in my hair for a day or two before washing it again. It's a great conditioning oil for dry and damaged hair. It might feel heavy on fine or thin hair, but I like it on my medium-thick hair. The only reason I dropped this a star is that I'm dubious of the claim that it promotes hair growth. I think it helps my dry hair from breaking off, but I don't think it can do much for most hair loss. However, for hair conditioning, this is definitely a five star product.

It's not showing no improvement or no change. It's been one month and no improvement to my hair... Just a waste of money... Very disappointed ☹️☹️

Single-ingredient moisturizing treatment with a pleasant smell
When this is described as "batana oil," that's exactly what it is. Not a dozen other ingredients with just a little bit of batana, no colors or fragrances, just batana oil. I love that about this. It's easy to use, just melt it into you hands and massage it into your scalp and hair. Folks with long hair would do well to concentrate on the ends since that's where you're less likely to get natural oil from your scalp to help keep the hair healthy. Leave it in for a bit, then wash it off in the shower with shampoo. Not at all complicated. I loved how my scalp felt afterward, definitely less itchy and "tight." as far as regrowing any hair or anything, I think the only thing that would help me is a miracle, so I'm not basing my review on that. The smell is nutty and very nice. Similar to the roasty notes of coffee or chocolate. Very pleasant and not "chemical" or perfumey smelling.

Nice Scent but Too Early to See Results
I’ve just started using this batana oil, so it’s too early to say if it actually helps with hair growth or thickness. I’ll need to use it consistently for a while before seeing real results. So far, I do like the smell—it has a nice scent and doesn’t feel overwhelming. The oil itself feels nourishing and easy to apply to the scalp and hair. The size is decent for the price, but like most hair treatments, the effectiveness will really depend on long-term use. Pros: Pleasant scent Feels nourishing on hair and scalp Easy to apply Cons: Too early to tell results Overall, it seems promising, but you’ll need to give it time to see if it actually delivers on the hair growth claims.
