40s dress vintage 40s Summer Day Dress Vintage 50s Sunny Yellow Plaid Medium VFGA sunny lighthearted dress that I believe dates to the late 40s early 50s era. The bodice is fitted with darts, and has cap sleeves, and a large pointed collar. The four gore skirt uses the plaid diagonally in back. In the front, there are areas of gathering above the large patch flapped pockets, creating an emphasis. A sunny lighthearted dress that I believe dates to the late 40s - early 50s era. The bodice is fitted with darts, and has cap sleeves, and a large pointed collar. The four gore skirt uses the plaid diagonally in back. In the front, there are areas of gathering above the large patch flapped pockets, creating an emphasis.

FABRIC/COLORS: A lovely woven plaid primarily in white and butter yellow with sparing use of black. The fabric is a lightweight cotton. 

TAGS: No tags

CLOSURES: The dress unbuttons completely down the front using ten flat white plastic shank buttons. There is a snap at the waist. The dress has self-fabric belt loops but no belt. I have shown it in some photos with a belt from my closet - it is not included with purchase.

CONDITION: There is a very small hole in the skirt fabric at the upper inner corner of the patch pocket on the right side - see closeup with a dark object placed underneath. No other issues noted - no stains or tears.

Not fur Surfing or other Water Sports
I got this in a swag bag from a surfing contest. The stick is very dry...that's the only way I can explain how it feels. It certainly doesn't glide on like other face sticks. After one wave and ducking my face in the water, the product smeared off and ran into my eyes. My vision got blurry from that, and it was really hard to see the waves coming in. I won't be using this product ever again. I also looked at the EWG website, and this product was given a 6. For those new to EWG, that's not a good rating. You want like a 1 or 2.

Worked well near the equator

I bought this product because I was going to be in the field for a month, outside, every day, all day, in Tanzania at high altitude. A severe sunburn would be hard to treat in the remote area we were in, but also I am very careful about protecting my skin from aging. I had to have mineral based sunscreen because as a whitewater kayaker I know it’s the only truly water resistant kind and it was going to be sweaty. And since I knew I was going to be putting it on every day, and we didn’t have running water in the field (bucket showers only) I didn’t want it to feel gross. (I really wanted to try the spray but I didn’t want to put anything pressurized in my luggage.) And I had already discovered the Coola face sunscreen (30spf version) which had impressed me with how silky smooth and not greasy it is. Now this IS greasier because it is a higher SPF. BUT I think this product is as good as you’re going to get with the protection you’re getting. Like I said, I’m a white water tiger, so I have used a LOT of mineral sunscreens. This was hands down the most comfortable one I’ve used. And it was effective. I didn’t burn once—only time I did burn was when I forgot to put it on one day toward the end of the trip, when we were out for just a couple hours—and I got the first 2nd degree burn I’ve ever had in my life. That was what this stuff had protected me from, all day every day, the entire trip. I did tan a little but I think that was mostly from the few times I was not covered during short bouts or it was cloudy. For my face I used the Coola 50spf face product.
