Kampfrau Dress

Bold colors. Historical flair.

The Kampfrau Dress combines late medieval style and Landsknecht flair into a single, wearable, and adjustable garment, ideal for everything from drunken carouses to multi-day campaign days at your local LARP. Red and green, or red and white, you have a dramatic look that can't help but make a great impression in the best way.

Its pleated hem flows with natural weight and movement, giving the illusion of you moving even when you're standing completely still. The floral cutwork trimming across the hem adds a bit of whimsy but stops short of being overdone. And with long tie-straps both in the front and back, you can control the fit – pull it in close or let it droop a bit, depending on how many layers you have on.

A Dress That Feels as Good as It Looks

The exterior is made of brushed wool, fuzzy and warm, with ridges just where they should be, and gentle against the skin on the inside. It will gladly drape over a chemise or shift (like our Shift Guila or Smock Violet), and it will retain its shape all day long.

The Kampfrau Dress draws inspiration from 16th-century fashion, particularly the styles worn by working-class women and camp followers, practical yet far from plain. It brings just enough structure to feel fitted without ever feeling restrictive. Whether you’re on your feet all day or dancing into the evening, you’ll move easily and stay comfortable.

And yes, we accessorized it here with matching sleeves and feather hats – those aren't included, but they're from the same collection if you'd like the entire look.

Why this might just be your new favorite dress:

  • Made from brushed wool with breathable cotton lining

  • Available in Cardinal Red & Natural Off White and Eden Green & Cardinal Red colorways

  • Full pleated skirt with floral cutwork trim

  • Long tie-strings at front and back for a flexible, custom fit

  • Coordinates with matching sleeves and hats (sold separately)

  • Based on the late medieval and early Renaissance periods, and the Landsknecht style.

  • Ideal for LARP, Ren fairs, fantasy cosplay, or reenactment

  • Comes in a range of sizes so you can find the right fit for you

The Kampfrau Dress is for individuals who stride with intent. Whether you are operating an inn, hiking with mercenaries, or merely showing off your colors in the sunlight. It is dramatic, functional, and full of character; like you.

Another good Benchmark Atlas
Format: Spiral-bound
We camp frequently and own all of the Benchmark Atlases. Although, this is different due to Canadian laws, we are excited to try it out! Very detailed with information, such as small campgrounds and identifying land ownership (Forest services or BLM)

Memories of the Camino
Format: Paperback
First off, I have to say that my husband and I know Angela, the author. We met her because she is a neighbor of my sister, living in Hawaii. We discovered that she planned to walk the Camino de Santiago de Compostela the same year we were (2016) ! On a visit to Hawaii, we met with Angela and did a little local hike together. She was so enthusiastic and had prepared well. We, too, had been reading up and watching videos, getting suggestions as to what to bring, how to deal with physical issues and weather, what to pack and what not to pack, etc. Still, for anyone doing the Camino - whether the WHOLE 500 miles or doing the required 100 km to get the certificate at the final destination: Santiago de Compostela, Spain - it is a very personal endeavor. Reading Angela Leslee's book gives you the personal story of her "camino," and it is captivating. The changes that take place in her life - the discoveries she makes, the people she meets, the failures she feels, the fears, the habits that get broken (such as food choices!) - all make for an adventure that is life-changing and an interesting read. For anyone considering this pilgrimage, because that's what it is, this book will inspire you. You don't need to be part of a "group." You don't need a lot of plans. You do need to be prepared to be changed. The memory for myself and my husband is that it is the best shared experience we have had together in our 50 years of marriage! Angela's book brought back so many wonderful memories for us. I highly recommend this book.

Feeling Inspired!
Format: Paperback
Reading "The Way of Love" has inspired and encouraged me as I plan for my first (solo) Camino. I thank Angela Leslee for being unafraid to bare all the emotions in her book: the joys, victories, setbacks, disappointments, and pain. It's evident that "The Way of Love" was a labor of love as page after page recounts the 500 miles she walked! I told the author in an email that, in September, when I walk my Camino, I'll be sure to be up and out on the trail "...before sunrise when the yellow street lights cast their magical glow." Can't wait to experience that! "The Way of Love" -- easy to read and enjoy.

the good, the bad, the funny, the reality
Format: Kindle
A great memoir of an “older” woman walking the Camino de Santiago alone. Alone but with many friendships along the way.
