Unreal 1920s hand beaded and painted flatter dress covered in exquisite Greco-Egyptian style motifs. This piece is frankly nothing short of a miracle- from start to finish, this dress was created as a piece of wearable art. The base of the dress is a cotton bobbinet that was carefully stenciled and then painted by hand to create the contrasting white and soft blue color blocking. After dry, the material was then mounted to a tambour frame and beaded entirely by hand with a mix of fiber optic and transparent hand blown glass beads, as well as miniature metal sequins. Finally, after being removed from the frame and assembled, the beaded fringe was carefully applied to the hem. The result is a wearable masterpiece, heavy with the weight of the highest quality materials available. When they say a flapper dress, this is what they mean. Slinky and sexy with high cut side slits, incredible light reflecting quality, and of course that soft twinkle of the glass fringe as you move. Perfect in every way, this is an heirloom worthy garment.

Overall excellent condition with minor notes. There are some very subtle age marks scattered throughout (largest about 3/8") that blend in with the busy beaded motifs and are only noticeable upon very close inspection. 1 very small (less than 1/2") repair to the mesh at side hip that gets totally lost. Otherwise perhaps a handful of missing beads or sequins and one or two pinholes, negligible. Frankly remarkable for a piece of this age and nature- very strong and wearable. Presents beautifully.

Note: This gown has not been cleaned and should not be as it will very likely damage both the hand painting and the sequins. However, it appears likely unworn, has no odor and presents very very cleanly. We would recommend wearing this with a slip or bodysuit underneath to protect the material and eliminate the need for any cleaning in the future. The dress can be safely steamed with care.

Inspiration and affirmation of the richness of a reading life
Format: Hardcover
I listened to Hooten Wilson give a talk about the book and immediately pre-ordered it. It did not disappoint. I haven’t binge read a book like I did this one since last year with Abolition of Man. It was a delight to learn more about some extraordinary and diverse readers such as Julian of Norwich, Frederick Douglas, Dorothy Sayers and others. Hooten Wilson does an excellent job make a case for the ways reading both the Word and literature expands our capacity for living rightly and for reflecting God.

An excellent survey of Christians should read
Format: Kindle
I love how complicated ideas are presented in a very simple way. This deserves to be read alongside Joshua Hren's How to Read like a Catholic

Excellent book about how, why, and what Christians should read.
Format: Hardcover
Disclaimer- I cannot affirm the recommended book list at the end of the book as I am unfamiliar with many of the books. Jessica Hooten Wilson introduces us to four Christian writers throughout history whose writings help readers better understand themselves and the world they live in through the lens of Scripture. As we learn what shaped each of these writers and the contributions they made, we understand the importance of why we should read, what we should read, and how we should read. Through the work of these historical figures, she helps us to discern literal and historical context, look for allegorical and spiritual significance, and determine the tropological meaning with a anagogical perspective, and more! Wilson explains how the reader is challenged, convicted, conformed, and compelled toward godliness through reading. Through shared stories and experiences, we learn about others, God, and ourselves. Something is worth reading if it leads us to truth; not away from it (p. 33). While there are many benefits of reading, I’m not fully on board with the idea that reading in general must be practiced as a spiritual discipline. In the same way, I’m not convinced watching movies or listening to music must be practiced as a spiritual discipline. I think it is necessary for Christians to filter what we read, watch, and listen to through the lens of Scripture. But she is right- Christians should read the Bible as well as other books. As Wilson explains on page 150, even fiction should test our hearts as we seek truth. This book is excellent! It is well written, very informative, and very compelling.
